  1. Hello All I have been looking at my rear spring now the n/s gubbins is out of the way. It looks to me as if the 2 leaves have taken on an upward bend which would account for the slighly saggy backend? (I wonder if I can have a new spring fitted?) I have not got the new spring yet as they were out of stock and it was a job scheduled for the winter anyway. Roger
  2. Hello All After our trip to Ireland I have stripped the n/s drive shaft down and here is what I have found(its enough to give me nightmares when I think of the mileage covered 1450) As you can see the damage is only on one bearing and cup and it had dried up?(I am certain I filled them all with grease when fitted) Looking at my records(not vinyl !) it has done about 18,000 miles(4 years) so I suppose not to bad for a cheap after market type? I have ordered 2 new old stock GKN Freelander types off Fleabay.(If they last longer they will see me out?) Roger
  3. Hello retirees and you lot that have to still do the other We are back home now and Spittys U/J did not let go(1450 miles covered) so relieved and it was a good crossing and drive home in the sun with the hood down. So all in all a Good trip (but I think the car needs bolting back together?) The roads in Wales seemed so Smooth after the corrugations of Ireland! Then just when I thought things can not get worse, the lad who house and dog sits said the Moggy Traveller is making funny(not hilarious) noises! So I thought better look at that before Spitty and found the axle had moved on the spring(rotated)? No problem I thought? get it back in line and tighten the U bolts up. I turns out the locating plates on the axle have collapsed and the nearside front spring hanger is bit rotten or the floor is to be precise! I think it will have to go as I do not have the same interest in it or the time to repair it(I would rather get our MK2 Vitesse going) Roger
  4. Hello from sad Roger Now on the rust bucket ship (more rust than a Triumph!) Just the drive home from Fishguard and back to work on Monday (not! retired 10+ years ago he he) We were loaded on to the deck that is hoisted into position with much banging and crashing! Roger
  5. Hello from Sunny Rosslare This our last night in Ireland on the 9am ferry to Fishguard. It has been a good trip and met some nice friendly people and weather has been mostly good! The drive line part I am frightened to name for fear of bad luck is still holding up and only 2 miles to ferry and back in Blighty. About 1250 miles covered now so 1500(thats a nice number) when home. Another ferry trip today that makes 4 in all plus 2 across the Irish sea. I think I have a lot of work to do on Spitty to get her in good order for next years escapades! A few more photos for you and to encourage you to do similar trips? Roger
  6. Hello All from drizzly and Sunny Ireland We are now in Youghal (I think we have found bar with music tonight? feel deprived no music for 3 NIGHTS) We had to put the hood up for the last 20 miles then the friggin Sun came out! 10. I found out today when I put the hood up for the night one bolt had fallen out of the offside lower pivot and the near side one had come completely loose! U/J still clicking away merrily on over run and light load goes quiet on load but does not sound any worse! Her whole rear end sounds a bit loose now! Still the new spring etc will put it right? She is still getting a lot of attention from people (it may go to her carburetors!) Roger
