  1. Hello Pete Buy a spare how long do you think we will all live? I think the one on the car now is the original and 100,000 miles so has done pretty well? It is still ok untill we go travelling with all the stuff needed(Spares,Tools etc oh and a few clothes for the memsab!) I want to know how people get on with boot racks fitted? I can overload without! Off to the Emerald Isle on Monday for a tour in Spitty. I will start a blog or what ever it is called and post a few photos(if we get any dry weather!) I wonder how Spitty will run on Pochine? or shall I drink it and it will seem fast? Roger
  2. Hello All I want to replace the rear spring on my Spitfire 1500 as it seems a bit soft and I have already stripped and replaced the the interleave buttons with PTFE ones. I was looking around and trying to decide were to get one from when I came across this company and as they are only about 10 miles away and they make springs not import them from who knows where? and I can collect it when made. I was quoted £48 + vat! which seems a very good price to me. http://www.gbsprings.co.uk/heritage-car-springs/ Roger
  3. Hello Darren That is a good result my playing will have to wait until we have been Ireland but want to do the same (run ignition first so I know when I have fitted the fuel injection if it does not start it is fuel not ignition!) I like the spaghetti ? We had a good run into Wales today and covered about 250+miles Roger
  4. Hello Darren I have bought the same IAC as you and I thought I had bought a duff one because it looks slighty open when not powered up? but when I poked about I found the valve is spring loaded. So I assume it is meant to open when engine is turned off(stop run on?) or to do with limp mode? I will have to make a 4 way maifold to feed all 4 throttle bodies? Will you just have to feed the main plenum? I wonder if it would be worth buiding in a restictor valve into 4 way minifold for fine tuning? or is that over thinking the problem? This good fun and gets the old brain working even if it turns out rubbish! I can't wait to get stuck in but we go to the Emerald Isle in a weeks time for 12/13 days in Spitty so will have to wait until at least October? Still I have most parts now just the manifold to get when on offer from Moss(restoration show?) Still thinking about the throttle linkage(you will not have that problem?) I have looked at the Jenvey stuff but is expensive and not sure I want for and aft layout I think I prefer Triumph way over the rocker cover(more thought needed?) Roger ps out on a run Monday into Sunny Wales
  5. Hello All My eyes water if tighten my nuts that tight? I have been using 50/55 Lbs/Ft on my Spitfire alloy for about 4+ years the man at tyre place wanted to tighten them to 90/100Lbs/Ft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and he was quite worried when I said 50/50 Lbs/Ft was ok Roger
  6. Hello Steve C No its not (he lied?) I was thinking of doing as Darren is but I have always fancied a pair of Weber's(but not the hassle you can sometimes have) I don't like TR6 injection (it was as good as Triumph could do at the time)but things have moved on! Now from what I understand you can the best ish of both worlds(lean cruising and richer for power when the Red mist drops) Plus it will look Posh ish I hope(or a pigs ear?) As I said I thought seriously about buying a TR4!(£15K to £25K!!!!!) but we like Spitty and have done 22000 miles in 6 years, not a terrific lot but been to Classic Spa three times,Classic Le Mans Twice, toured Spain last year(2500 ml) and Italy this year plus going to Le Mans(3600 ml) Plus off to the Emerald Isle a week Monday for 13 days touring in Spitty of course We have also BOOKED the Ferry to Bilbao for next June for a Spanish/Portugal trip So I recon I will be £14k to £24K in pocket? Plus I do like messing(I have been running Megajolt for 5 years and fitted it to my brother in laws TR6) By now you probably realise we are retired and have just enough money to be Silly???? Roger
  7. Hello Paul How about some longer nuts that have a small amount of thread removed from inside stud end? As Pete says they far superior to the 3/8" ones(the ones I fitted are marked 10.9 so are high tensile) and if they hold Range Rover wheels on with 5 and they are huge and weighs tons I think we will never break any on our cars! Roger or alloy wheels?
  8. Hello Darren You right it does seem a bit uncertain? Let me run this pasted you if we fit a wideband Lambda sensor drive drive around for a while until the unit learns and adjusts the fuelling map and then if we are unlucky and the LD unit fails could we not then just fit a narrow band sensor as the fuelling map should be about right? I received my injectors today and the seller sent the whole set up off a rover(injectors, harness, fuel rail and hoses) he had both for sale on Ebay at £48 for full kit or £40 for just injectors (I do not think it would be worth sending the parts back?) But now I have a harness made up! I will just remove the plug off the end and solder some cables of the correct colours to connect to Microsquirt(and fit the rubber sleeves that I have on the spare plugs) I also received the TPS and it fits perfectly on the throttle body so pleased as it is a genuine Rover part for £22.95 inc free p&p So I hope these will save me some heart ache when trying to set it up as they should be good parts?(I think there will be enough things to sort out with out faulty parts) Roger
  9. Hello Darren You are right it was me reading the wrong instruction(there are so many?) I still like the look of the LD wideband controller the Techedge one has a lot of options I don,t need (I think you can do the same for a lot of the from Microsquit software?) and £109 for a complete kit!(or £89 without gauge and open to offers so perhaps£5 to £10 cheaper?) even if you do not leave the gauge connected. https://ldperformance.co.uk/product/wideband-controller/ Roger
  10. Hello Darren Is this the type of air control valve you have got? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172314803966?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT If so does that mean you are going to fit a different transistor to you Microsquirt to drive it?(I don't think it could be put inside the case as there would be no heat sink for it) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TIP120-NPN-Transistor-from-ST-Microelectronics-choice-of-1-or-2-pieces-/291210960746?var=&hash=item43cd869f6a:m:m66VQf2jU7do3r5pAR_T0Kg I have bought this ignition module and remembered one of the reasons I am going to remove Megajolt is that with this fitted you can run a rev limiter(fuel and ignition or either) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331704617090?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This looks a good price? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322234557236?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I wonder if this is just an on/off valve? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261958536623?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This is on Ebay but p&p to much http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182246153385?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Roger
  11. Hello All My Throttle bodies have arrived and they look ok and come with the fuel rails.(wonder if the Wife would mind if I put them on the mantelpiece until I fit them?) I have fitted some old injectors to just see that it all fits, I have decided to buy some new injectors because knowing my luck I would have a faulty one! found a set on Ebay for £40 inc p&p so not worth messing with old ones? I have bought the Bosch 0280 155 884 type (fitted to lots of Rovers and MG,s) so if I ever get one fail it would be easy to get a spare(even abroad) I have found a Rover TPS sensor cheap on Ebay new and original. A quality coil driver made by Cambiare which I believe is a good make and it say England on it so assume its made here? Roger
  12. Hello Darren Only on the desk top! thought I would try and get in front of myself? and load the ignition map I run on Megajolt but stretched to 12 x 12 as a start( I am sure there will be tears of frustration and the rest) Its good to stretch this old brain but wine is clouding it now! I have get it sorted for next year as we have booked the ferry to Bilbao for mid June for another grand tour? May go to Spa earlier(its great being retired and just enough money to be silly) Plus SKI,ing (spending the kids inheritance) Roger
  13. Hello Darren I wish I had your patience I decided about 2 weeks ago? I was thinking of buying a TR4 but we like Spitty and I like tinkering so I am about £15 to £20k in pocket? Roger ps I will not crowd your blog? will carry on on the other one! unless you want me to contribute to this one from a different tack?
  14. Hello B******r off its your turn? I am struggling with Microsquirt! Roger
  15. Hello All How about this(not saying it would fit our cars but different) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suitable-for-Japan-Brand-Car-1-1-Bar-Safety-Thermo-Radiator-Cap-Cover-/162083450215?hash=item25bced2d67:g:CtkAAOSwagdXRs1e Roger
  16. Hello Pete I think it is close to Wine O Clock Time? I have been trying to copy the ignition map from Megajolt to Microsquirt ! the 1st is 10 x 10 and the second 12 x 12 so dreaming up numbers? I am sure it will be all worth it? or an expensive folly? Roger ps just worked out if? I get an extra 5 mpg on 5000/6000miles per year it will only take about 15 years to pay for its self !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still not as bad as Konkers cars?
  17. Hello All I have been thinking(dangerous) about all the wiring to be done on Microsquirt. I have decided to use these in the first instance as I can terminate the 35 way plug and fix it all under the nearside bulkhead and use either ring or fork end terminals. I can if needed use several for one application and bridge on Microsquirt side of the block(so all single cables to plugs and no joints in engine bay?) I can always hard wire it later if needed? or multi plugs? I can not see it will cause problems as it will all be in the dry? and it will make constructing a harness easier. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252400992992?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I have ordered a pressure regulator from these people with gauge(the cheapest I could find) http://www.mattlewisracing.co.uk/product.php/1447/104/fuel_pressure_regulator___matt_lewis_racing Roger
  18. Hello All I wonder how tall these pumps are and it looks spring loaded to push on the base of the tank? I wonder if it would reach the bottom of Spitty,s tank?(they are cheap) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-P38-4-0-4-6-V8-PETROL-NEW-IN-TANK-ELECTRIC-FUEL-PUMP-STC4344-/300708171406?hash=item46039a8e8e:g:3xEAAOxy86RSaTZ5 Roger ps their is several ones in the range with different fittings
  19. Hello All Well wouldn't you know by the time I had made up my mind which inlet manifold to buy(The long one not sure the short one would clear the exhaust pipes) The Moss sale had finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (who finishes a sale at 11am on a Friday? I will have to wait until they have another sale?(bound the be one to coincide with the restoration show and I can save p&p) Richard I was thinking the same as you! but now I have read this article I understand it(almost) http://www.enginebasics.com/EFI%20Tuning/Batch%20vs%20Sequential.html I have decide to remove the Edis4 module and fit one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331704617090?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT And this air temperature sensor. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252330110671?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I am thinking of this fuel pressure regulator(not sure abut the gauge?) but probably will http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371436494447?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Not sure which TPS yet will wait and see what fits the throttle bodies? As for trumpets and air cleaners I will see what can be fitted(perhaps a collector box and one on the front as moderns do?)plus would be better for IAT sensor and keep it clean. Roger
  20. Hello Mike I changed to Freelander M12 studs when I fitted minilite type wheels no worries ever then? not sure 3/8" are good enough for wider wheels and sticky tyres? Roger
  21. Hello Clive I think my brain is getting worn out? here is another article? http://www.jenvey.co.uk/faq/general-faq I hope it does not finish up lowering the power and torque? Roger
  22. Hello Clive This gets complicated! Would there be much difference? God this a can of worms? but makes the old brain work! Why do we have to tinker? I know the answer we are a long time dead and beats the s****t out of TV etc Roger
  23. Hello All That,s it I have gone and done it and ordered a set of the Throttle bodies(I spent that much replacing my old camera recentley) I have not ordered the manifold yet want to have a good measure of the space(from what I read longer induction tracts are better?) not sure if it makes much difference on a road car? I have been reading the Microsquirt site information about sensors and they say it does not make much difference to use a closed sensor for the air temperature in non turbo cars? I was thinking if the open type is just mounted in the engine bay would it get clogged up because it is not in filtered air? and water temperature types are cheap and you can calibrate then in the software. I am sure I will go for the pump in the tank fitting with built in swirl pot. The jury is still out on whether to use Edis or Bosch amplifier for coil pack(may be swayed as I have 3 Edis4,s) I think I will get an adjustable fuel regulator as you can tweek it to suit the injectors so I believe? Roger
  24. Hello All I am really thinking of buying a set of those throttle bodies! But which inlet manifold would be best? Moss do two? one about 110mm long and one about 40/45mm long plus they have a 15% sale on at the moment. You are right Clive I do like a challenge but I do fancy 4 throttle bodies as they look the Dogs dodah,s and never had a car with ITB,s and I think sorting the rest out will keep me quiet for a while! Money is not that much of a problem its number of years left in this old body(71 and lost 2 good friends recently same age!) plus I can always sell some Velocette motorcycle parts to cover the cost if need be and I am also SKI ing(spending the kids inheritance) I can see the konkers lot throwing their hands up in Horror? Roger
  25. Hello All How about these cut in half? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231918459196?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Or 2 of these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201573350907?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I still like the first ones as they come with a proper fuel rail which holds the injectors down? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131905568864?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I suppose a Ford engine would be easier? but where is the fun in that? Roger ps these look a good price? https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/car-accessories/inlet-manifolds-and-fittings/triumph-spitfire-manifold-to-suit-twin-dhladcoe/
