  2. I have a Mk2 Vitesse- which I believe is very original and fairly un molested. I am in the process of overhauling the rear suspension so have just confirmed that my radius arms are offset. The measurement between the two bushes is close to 16.71. Does this help?

  5. Hi Colin. That’s brilliant information. I shall have a go at it in the week and give an update on how I get on. I’m hoping that the bolts aren’t seized based on the fact that the spring looks like it has been almost sealed from new with Ziebart / Dinitrol🤞. Many thanks. Pete.

  7. I am about to replace the buttons on my rear spring. There are 4 clamps on the spring, 2 have bolts through them and 2 are brackets which are bent around the spring. Question is : Is it ok to heat these brackets with Oxy /Acetylene to enable them to be bent enough to allow spring removal OR is it a case of brute force and ignorance ?
  8. Hi Straightsix. No need to apologise, matter of fact it I found it very amusing.😂 I intended to spend a few minutes checking the trunnions this morning. One of the bolts rotated easily but the other was quite stiff. One thing led to another and I am now in the process of removing the rear spring (so I can fit some new self lubricating buttons. I am still awaiting for a pair of telescopic damper conversion brackets so that I can fit a pair of Koni 1717 shockers. It looks like the previous owner has fitted super flex ( or similar) poly bushes to the lower trunnions. Whilst everything is apart, I shall strip, check and grease the components . Best regards.     Vacuum gauge

    I am trying to work out how to measure the vacuum in my manifold. I have removed the servo pipe adapter from the manifold and it has a very fine thread which measures about 9.3mm OD. I am looking for an adapter which will fit into the 6mm ID hose of my vacuum gauge. Can anyone tell me what size adapter I should be looking for in BSP or BSF as I haven’t got a clue about thread sizes. I am thinking about using an adapter like the ones shown in the photo.   12. Pete Lewis & Doug. I have an old vacuum gauge that has been in my toolbox since the 70’s. - see photo. My carbs are off at the moment so I guess I have the choice of drilling the manifold where no.1 carb sits OR fitting a T piece to the servo outlet. I intend to use the gauge for setting up purposes only. Whichever method I use will be for the purpose of setting up the timing only. Can either of you suggest what type of adapter I can use and where I can buy it from? Many thanks to both of you . Pete

  14. Sorry, but I am confused. Does this happen on all of the small chassis triumph models? Does this happen on Mk2 Vitesse with the original rotaflex shafts fitted?
  15. Ian. Thank you for the photograph 👍 Straightsix. That’s good news. I shall probably remove,check and grease the trunnions and bolts when I strip the rear suspension. By the way , it’s Puglet……. Not Piglet😁. I came up with the name back in the 80’s when I drove small Peugeots - mostly modified 205 GTIs.
  16. Hi Straightsix. I started my investigation into the noise by removing the shock absorber and doing the same as you have already done….spraying the spring and bushes which had no effect whatsoever! My intention was to strip the rear suspension and fit a rear telescopic shock absorber conversion and investigate the noise at the same time. I am also going to overhaul the rear spring. I have all of the parts apart from rear shock absorber conversion brackets which are on back order so my investigation into the noise has halted for the moment. My focus has now switched to a carb and ignition timing problem. So, in the meantime, I reckon Trigolf has a good point there so if you are able to do as he suggests, please let me know the result.   18. So, today I have been able to identify where the incorrect washer that was sat between the top bushing and the carb body came from. I removed the needle valve to clean it and was able to confirm that the previously mentioned incorrect washer in the top bushing was exactly the same as the needle valve one. I then checked the float heights, one was at 14mm and the other at 23mmm. I adjusted the first carb to 18mm and both plastic bowls were the same height . I then tried to repeat the process on the second carb but was unable to measure the plastic bowls on the float at the same height. This was due to the previous owner fitting a new float UPSIDE DOWN. I guess all of these issues are contributing to my difficulty in adjusting the mixture and tick over? I’m hoping to see a difference when the new washers and gaskets arrive…… fingers crossed 🤞

  21. Hello All. With the top of my carbs removed I noticed a difference in height of the bushing/ bushing screw assembly. The rear one was slightly proud of the carb body when looking through the air filter side of the carb, and the front bushing height was lower. Both bushing screws were fully tightened into the carb body. Is it possible to adjust the bushings? (I thought they should be level with the flat surface of the carb body when viewed from the air filter side of the carbs. Many thanks. Pete.
  22. To back up what these guys are saying about helmets. I have 2 auto darkening ones in my garage. I mistakenly picked up the cheap helmet and wondered what was wrong with my mig welding (difficult to see the pool of weld or work area). I switched to my R-tech helmet and all was instantly back to normal.
