  1. Hi Paul. Do you have the original paper type filter or are you using a spin on type? Pete.
  2. johny. That sounds logical to me. It’s the route I’ll be taking. Many thanks. Pete.
  3. johny, Pete, JohnD. Thank you all for your comments. I shall read through the information you have supplied and experiment with various ideas once the car is back on the ground.👍 Pete
  4. So, I’m still in the process of rebuilding the rear suspension on my Mk2 Vitesse convertible. It’s not completed yet but in preparation for setting it up the camber, I’ve bought a cheap camber gauge. Although - I think my initial adjustment will be front and rear tracking using the string method. My question is……. How do I set up the camber gauge prior to doing the measurement? Is it a case of setting the gauge to Zero by using something like a spirit level before resting it against the tyre / hub? Pete.

    Charity run

Looking at the responses to this there seems to be a trend going on. How about a thumbs up from Mr Lewis to keep the trend going. Pete .😁.

That looks like a great bunch of classics and a good day out. Well done!

Hi Chris. Have you shared “the photo” with us? I’m struggling to see it. Pete.
  8. Sounds like he has a great car there. I reckon the Sun in OZ was really shining on him that day! Good for you for helping him out with the boost👍
  9. Hi Morgana. Were you able to obtain the 5/16 UNF nuts in bronze?
  10. I have a Mk2 Vitesse- which I believe is very original and fairly un molested. I am in the process of overhauling the rear suspension so have just confirmed that my radius arms are offset. The measurement between the two bushes is close to 16.71. Does this help?
  11. Lovely looking car. Welcome to an extremely good forum.
  12. Thanks ed.h. That’s an interesting write up. That looks the same! 👍
  13. Hi Colin. That’s brilliant information. I shall have a go at it in the week and give an update on how I get on. I’m hoping that the bolts aren’t seized based on the fact that the spring looks like it has been almost sealed from new with Ziebart / Dinitrol🤞. Many thanks. Pete.
  14. Hi ahebron. I haven’t started to strip it yet so I’m not sure where they are but as I have bought 8 of the self lubricating type I think I’ll try to fit them. Thank you. Pete.
  15. I am about to replace the buttons on my rear spring. There are 4 clamps on the spring, 2 have bolts through them and 2 are brackets which are bent around the spring. Question is : Is it ok to heat these brackets with Oxy /Acetylene to enable them to be bent enough to allow spring removal OR is it a case of brute force and ignorance ?
  16. Hi Straightsix. No need to apologise, matter of fact it I found it very amusing.😂 I intended to spend a few minutes checking the trunnions this morning. One of the bolts rotated easily but the other was quite stiff. One thing led to another and I am now in the process of removing the rear spring (so I can fit some new self lubricating buttons. I am still awaiting for a pair of telescopic damper conversion brackets so that I can fit a pair of Koni 1717 shockers. It looks like the previous owner has fitted super flex ( or similar) poly bushes to the lower trunnions. Whilst everything is apart, I shall strip, check and grease the components . Best regards. Pete.

    Vacuum gauge

The car is a Mk2 vitesse with a servo fitted. It’s just for a tuning aid so not permanent. Thank you. Pete.

    Vacuum gauge

I am trying to work out how to measure the vacuum in my manifold. I have removed the servo pipe adapter from the manifold and it has a very fine thread which measures about 9.3mm OD. I am looking for an adapter which will fit into the 6mm ID hose of my vacuum gauge. Can anyone tell me what size adapter I should be looking for in BSP or BSF as I haven’t got a clue about thread sizes. I am thinking about using an adapter like the ones shown in the photo. Many thanks. Pete.
  19. Paul. Thank you for the photo. I need have a good look at my servo to manifold connection and find out what alternative adapters are available . Pete.
  20. Pete Lewis & Doug. I have an old vacuum gauge that has been in my toolbox since the 70’s. - see photo. My carbs are off at the moment so I guess I have the choice of drilling the manifold where no.1 carb sits OR fitting a T piece to the servo outlet. I intend to use the gauge for setting up purposes only. Whichever method I use will be for the purpose of setting up the timing only. Can either of you suggest what type of adapter I can use and where I can buy it from? Many thanks to both of you . Pete
  21. Hi Doug, What type of vacuum gauge would you use and where would it be connected? Pete.
  22. Sorry, but I am confused. Does this happen on all of the small chassis triumph models? Does this happen on Mk2 Vitesse with the original rotaflex shafts fitted?
  23. Ian. Thank you for the photograph 👍 Straightsix. That’s good news. I shall probably remove, check and grease the trunnions and bolts when I strip the rear suspension. By the way , it’s Puglet……. Not Piglet😁. I came up with the name back in the 80’s when I drove small Peugeots - mostly modified 205 GTIs.
  24. Hi Straightsix. I started my investigation into the noise by removing the shock absorber and doing the same as you have already done….spraying the spring and bushes which had no effect whatsoever! My intention was to strip the rear suspension and fit a rear telescopic shock absorber conversion and investigate the noise at the same time. I am also going to overhaul the rear spring. I have all of the parts apart from rear shock absorber conversion brackets which are on back order so my investigation into the noise has halted for the moment. My focus has now switched to a carb and ignition timing problem. So, in the meantime, I reckon Trigolf has a good point there so if you are able to do as he suggests, please let me know the result. All the best. Pete.
