Loose Seal

I've attached a photo of the NSR trunnion housing on my GT6. You can see that the cap (grease retaining) has worked loose and is no longer attached. How do you suggest I re-attach it? I've tried gently tapping it but it won't stay in place. Many thanks - Keith

Hi, yes quite common for these to come loose but a big job to replace. However they dont really do very much so perhaps you could use a cable tie on the drive shaft to keep it up against the bearing housing....

                  I would just give it a good clean with thinners or brake cleaner and glue it in place silicon or araldite etc

+1 for just use some setting   bathroom type  silcon sealer  or no more nails   you dont need anything clever

Don't fancy the chances of glue or sealant if there's been grease or oil about, even if cleaned. A cable tie looks a bit bodgey, but effective.

talking bodges   its only a dirt flinger its not any sort of seal  if could be cut off it wont cause any catastrophe its there to  stop water running up the shaft to the real seal

Perhaps a less conspicuous alternative would be to move the dust cap back a bit, then clean the shaft and wrap some tape round it until the diameter is sufficient to keep the cap in place?

Drill a hole through the shaft and put in a split pin?

As the gang have already said, sealer works fine once it's been cleaned up / degreased. It's only a cover.

DO NOT weld it on.... seriously! That was the cause of my first ever GT6 breakdown thanks to a PO.
