wimpus
Hi, For a few years I can pull the key out of the ignition switch when the car is running. Tried to lube it etc .. still no good. But... Fox needs to go for technical inspection here in Belgium by the end of september and since a few months a new rule is in action... So if you can pull the key put it would fail Anybody got any tips to maybe get it working ? 😅 Mine is well used.. so probably just dead worn. New one at Bastuck germany is 206 euro incl the rest of the parts needed.

Josef
I’d try a new barrel and key if they’re in effect as simple as the earlier style. This will put enough of the tumblers at less worn parts of the body and mean he key’ll stay put in the lock. Canley’s list the switch unit for £20 https://www.canleyclassics.com/?catalogue=triumph-spitfire-mkiv/1500&diagram=triumph-spitfire-mkiv/1500-steering-column-switches though, so however much tax and shipping and so on cost it will still end up less than €206! wimpus
Sorry.. but the late style 1500 was totally different ! Same as TR7
Jeffds1360
Can you get the barrel out? Maybe that is replaceable ?
dannyb
There must be a way of getting the barrel out and replacing it. Possible held in with a pin. I don't thing it will be the key that's worn as the lock should trap the shoulder of the key once it's turned in the lock so it won't pull out. dannyb
Wimpus, I have looked everywhere online and cannot find a barrel replacement. The whole assembly as you know are ridiculously dear. Same as fitted to tr7. Is it the same with the spare key if you have one. If so then it might be worth tryi g a breakers for a second hand one. wimpus
Contacted a few guys I know that sell 2nd hand spitfire parts here in belgium. One guy has used ones with key in the Netherlands. But his price is the same as a new Bastuck one 😅 Bastuck has them in stock, so will order one there. Took the old lock off this weekend to inspect (bolts where loose !) Even tried with the spare key.. no luck. Think its just to worn out.
