68vitesse
This morning stripped the carburetors in my 2L Vitesse, been running not quite right, one of the diaphragms has a couple of small holes. My question is should the diaphragms be replaced as pairs or just change the damaged one?. The pack contained two diaphragms, so both replaced. Many thanks Paul. Stratton Jimmer
If the diaphragm is not punctured, give it a soak in some clean petrol and re-use it. Only replace them if holed.
Pete Lewis
well you dont have to change in pairs but if you do you have a good service record for when to have another look see, a wash in petrol will reform a wrinkled one back into shape just be aware there are some really awful thick and stodgey ones around even from reputable sellers important they are thin and gossamer like , to be nice and flexible the ones made from old elephant condoms are not fit for use Pete

johny
Go on Paul go mad, splash out and get a pair! Then you can keep the old good one in the car as an emergency spare👍
dougbgt6
I was lucky enough to buy NOS diaphragms on Fleabay, 7 for £10, IIRC, I've since been persuaded to part with two pairs. Still not needed them myself! 3 should see me out. Stromberg CD150 Carburettor Diaphragm Unbranded New Old Stock | eBay Doug
68vitesse
While fuel system apart decided to replace the fuel hoses with the gates barricade bought from the club shop awhile back. Despite all that's been said about modern petrol the old hoses were still very flexible and in excellent condition after being in use for a considerable number of years. Regards Paul. Pete Lewis
its pretty clear that the original hoses used by triumph on production was to a far better specification than the aftermarket crap we have been subjected too over the past few years its not all down to the myths of E's crap fake rubber is just that anything with a hint of meeting a specification will last for years some of the stuff marketed as R 'god knows what' is made from recycled postal rubber bands has a distinct poor life expectancy and breeds the dreaded rubber slivers thats my moan of the day Pete

68vitesse
Just a moan, the sealing washer for the fuel pump has swollen quite badly after being in contact with petrol, the seller of the kit makes a big point that the pump diaphragm is fine with ethanol.
