Mint
Did any one purchase the long distance aluminium fuel tanks for the Triumph Spitfire if so do you have contact details or point me in the right direction. Besides the price what are your thoughts, the reason for asking is I'm running my car with triple dellorto carbs . Thanks
rlubikey
Hi Mint. I think that was Alicool. I'm afraid they've stopped trading. You can see the web site via archive.org here - Alicool.co.uk. Look down at the bottom for the Spitfire. No pictures I'm afraid - I thought I had saved an image on my PC but unfortunately not. They said they would do in-tank fuel injection pumps which interested me, so I'm really sad they've gone. Cheers, Richard

rogerguzzi
Hello Mint I was talking to these people at Triumh & MG show on Sunday about a tank for my Spitfire and for one with more capacity and the fuel pump built in(I run ITB's EFI) and putting a dent/bulge in to locate the fuel filter he said about £500! I said I could make the fuel punp fixing plate and he said that would save about £50! Plus if I went ahead I would prefer a guage sender that bolts not the ring fixing type and I could make the flange perhaps another £50 off? Car Radiators Manufacturers | Heat Exchange Specialists: Coolex (coolexperts.co.uk) Roger ps they would make it to your own dimensions?
JohnD
Roger, Workshop below just made a bespoke radiator for my other project. It was a bit more than your tank's estimate, but half of that was the matrix. If you sent Howard a drawing he might do you a better price: https://www.mrsheattransfer.com/ John
rogerguzzi
Hello John Only toying with the idea at the moment! What I need is an old knackered tank to measure and show my late mates son as he works in fabricating and could possibly make one I can make all the bosses! JohnD
What happened to your old one? But surely someone could measure up theirs for you?

Would it be any cheaper if they were doing a run of several tanks, rather than just a complete one-off? I'd certainly be interested in higher capacity, in tank EFi pump equiped Spitfire tank... rogerguzzi
Hello John Nothing really other than my anti surge baffle does no work very well! If the tank is down to half and I go around Left handers to quick the engine cuts out(which is a Bugger in Spain with the Anti Clockwise Islands? It's just boys and toys and looking a shinny things at a Show!!! Plus with Spitty doing 44mpg I can probably do 300miles down to fumes(well beyound Bladder range!) I must admit when travelling I tend to refill the tank when it gets just under half or at the start of a longer journey and off up and down mountain passes or off the beaten track! rogerguzzi
Hello All I was thinking if I have a new fuel tank made about fitting the sender in the top of the tank and screw fixings(less chance of a leak!) What about this one? CLASSIC CAR fuel tank sender unit 12v or 24v (autoelectricalspares.co.uk) Roger
JohnD
That's the sort of thing I have on SofS's tank. Which was a bespoke item, made for me by a local workshop to my drawings. I'll send contact details to anyone who wants, but there must be small fabrication shops all over who can TiG weld! The gauge is at the back (front on the car), the lowest as the Vitesse floor slopes towards the front. The large access hatch was to fill it with foam to comply with FIA regs, which was a complete PIA as it then took ages to fill! I've taken it out and left a piece under the filler to satisfy the scrutes! The swirl pot is a necessity with Pi, especially with the wide shallow tank that was in Silverback, the Estate. I've just continued it on SofS and not bothered about anti-surge baffles. If yours has EFi, Roger then I'd recommend doing that! John
