Checking for air leaks at inlet manifold

Hi. would a fine spray of water work, to temporarily seal any leaks and therefore alter idle speed please?.

No.   Whatever made you think it would?

 

A burnable spray - WD40, brake cleaner - will temporarily increase revs, but are you concerned about that inflabbabilty?

I have had a catastrophic manifold leak, engine no start. But what's happening that makes you suspect there's a leak?

In the emmision dept we always had a pump oil can with petrol in for this, it wont fire , but the revs will

increase if it sucks any in ,

 

never use brake fluid ,,,,, that will fire up from the exhaust heat

Idle has suddenly gone a bit high and won't go any lower with idle screws backed off and nothing sticking on the cable/linkage to prevent shutting down. Plugs quite paler than usual.

 

John. I thought if a smallish leak, then spraying anything would alter running a bit, for a test, and waters sort of, free,ish and won't harm.

Check that the throttle spindle link between the carbs hasnt slipped allowing one carb to be held open off the stop.

All plugs paler than usual?

 

Have you checked the rocker breather system? If a vitesse then the breather valve is a suspect that needs to be investigated.

Yes bens idea undo the thottle clamp connector make sure both are closing

reset with equal turns of the idle screw 1.5 turns from just touching then retighen the

connecting clamp.

 

And to add to clives thoughts rocker cover and oil filler cap gasket sealing
