Cookie
No doubt many of you will have seen the GT6 Car SOS Episode the was on National Geographic Channel on Thursday 29th March. Nat Geo commission the series and it won't be on Terrestial TV for about a year when it comes onto More 4. However, at the moment there is an online link to see the programme, not sure it's official and it may get taken down if Nat Geo notice due to copywrite but here's the link if you are quick! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6h2cwi Also as you may notice may car features as the example that Fuzz and Tim Drive, so my car is a TV star now (and if you look closely you will see me in the driving seat in some of the shots!) 1

Anglefire
When was it filmed? I'm guessing by the snow not that long ago? Shame about the owner, but at least he did get to drive his car again.
dougbgt6
Andy, The bits on the rebuild were very interesting and well done. However, I find Tim and his antics a real pain, without him there could have been so much more on the cars! The pints are on you next East Berks Meeting! Anglefire
I do find Tim's antics cringeworthy - and so obviously staged. But the cars make up for it.
dougbgt6
Isn't Fuzz our Honorary President? Why wasn't he buy parts from the club shop? Tim putting the wheel nuts on the wheel without the trim! Should have been on the cutting room floor. Do they still have cutting rooms? Waynebaby
Whilst we're being picky, did anybody else notice that the prop shaft was fitted back to front? Wayne
Cookie
The bit I filmed was last September but this was before they had sneaked away the car for restoration.... Looking on the DVLA website the car was only MOTd on 18th Jan this year so I suspect the restoration finished around then.

Doug David Manners is just around the corner from Fuzz's new restoration business Tootaa Classics where it's now filmed. My understanding is that they actually get the bits donated for free so the discount ruse is just for the camera....
Anglefire
And no advisories - quite a few I've seen in the past have had a few niggles - but I suspect due to the really poor health of the owner, they went to town. Not MOT's though - I know its exempt, but still needs one.

dougbgt6
Andy Yes, mine was off the road before SORN came in, I wrote to DVLA and said do I have to do it? They said no, not until you put it back on the road and take it off again. Doug

Griffon Rolls
Result Andy and Thank You. Parts from the Club Shop ? Loyalty to our Club is one thing but was it not over 1,000 parts. From our club shop over the counter I don’t think so. I don’t think it was my imagination but was it not fitted with twin HS 4 SU carburettors and not those rival things. Way to go. That the second time around your car has stared Andy and is very cunning plan to increase its value. And Lads let not get to picky it is a TV show not a workshop manual. If my understanding is correct the owner has now passed away therefore I feel it only correct to offer our condolences to his family.
dougbgt6
GR, Yes it did have the wrong carbs. 1 hour ago, Griffon Rolls said: it is a TV show not a workshop manual. Unfortunately! A little of Tim Shaw goes a long way. db
Griffon Rolls
Hi Dougbgt6, GR. What is that? I know it’s a GT6 running on 4 cylinders as one of those rubber Diaphragm things has popped a hole in it. Luckily those other diaphragm things did not go in holes. That nice man Dennis Barbet has a lot to answer for he obtained a commission to design the Stromberg carburettor did that and promptly left to join Triumph as a Development Engineer and inflicted it on the world of Triumph and thus the carburetter tune kit CD 200 was born. Thread Drift Next Doug I just noticed your GT6 is a Non- Rotoflex lucky you and therefore it must be later than KC 20,000. I have a friend who is an ex works Triumph mechanic that about time of Andy Cooks magazine article / interview on his GT6 wanted to sell his Spitfire and replace it with a Non- Rotoflex GT 6 and I was duly asked to find him one. I did actually find him one on the dreaded Ebay with only two hours to run and only a couple of bids and it looked good even had carpet up images but alas it was not to be he had gone out for the day and the sale went through at a very reasonable price. I also noticed in one of your comments that you wanted some non metric fixings at one time. If you have a desperate need again I use a place about 15 mile from me that can supply almost anything in small quantities even if it is not stocked and at a reasonable price well so far. So if you are stuck any times just shout.
mpbarrett
nice story, car looked good (maybe a bit low at the front). Sad bit did he die shortly after seeing it? mike
Anglefire
Not clear how soon after the car was handed back, but I’m guessing given production deadlines within 6weeks or so would be my guess. Shame but at least he did drive it, there is at least one in the current series where the owner died before it was competed.

I prefer Strombergs, they require little attention once set up, unlike SUs. I carry a spare diaphragm just in case, but it's only happened once in 40 years. The metric tool shop directed me to an ancient shop in Slough, father and daughter run, they have every imperial nut and bolt you could ever want. I think we met at the Shire Horse after you bought Mark's spitfire? Did you ever put the fat wheels on it? Doug
