dougbgt6
Brian, What car/engine would be interesting. Stromberg or SU carbs? Have you moved the distributor at all? The carb has been off, so are the manifold gaskets OK, not leaking? I wouldn't expect the carbs to be set up after a refurb, that can only be done on the car. BRIAN Hunter
Hi Doug this is a 13/60 has a Stromberg 150 CD The gaskets are all new so should be okay. Yes the distributor had been moved but I hope I have timed it back correctly
johny
I believe on the bottom of the carb you will have the fuel mixture adjuster which as an intial running position should be unscrewed 3 complete turns. To know where to start from you need to look in the mouth of the carb to see the jet into which the needle slides and turn the adjuster until the top of the jet is flush with its locating sleeve. While your there you can lift up the needle piston with a finger (you should feel damping resistance as you do this) and let it drop back down which it should do smoothly and a little click as it lands back on the bottom of the carb intake. Once running you can then fine tune the mixture by further turning, one way or the other, of the adjuster.

BRIAN Hunter
Good news car started ran up to temperature acceleration okay needs fine tuning. Not easy to restart even when warm (any suggestions welcomed)? Thanks BRIAN
Pete Lewis
poor hot starts is possibly too rich mixture . Pete
johny
Brian I really recommend going through the complete sequence of engine adjustments rather than just stabs in the dark. If you do that you then know 100% that those things are right and if theres still problems it narrows down the search and can save a lot of time...... Colin Lindsay
Ignore the yellow arrow (it was for another query) but this is the best photo I could find on the Net; most others have the airbox attached which blocks the view, or else have modified their cars to take all sorts of aftermarket carbs and engines then flooded the Net with photos, which makes finding an original setup quite difficult. PHOTO DELETED AS INCORRECT
NonMember
What car is that? I thought the cable quesry related to a Herald 13/60 but that doesn't look like my old 13/60 did. For one thing, it's a later CDS type carb, whereas I thought Heralds had the "Thames barrier" type.
Colin Lindsay
The original post in that last entry by myself was querying the accuracy of the carb, so it's probably not the original Stromberg, but it's the linkages I was hoping were the correct version for the 13/60. As it happens, they're not.... This one below is the only photo I've been able to find in any of my manuals showing the proper setup.
NonMember
Yes, that's as I remember it. The OUTER cable operates the throttle and the inner attaches to a fixed point.
