There are plenty of classic resto guys out there, but they are booked solid far ahead if they are good. and they can just concentrate on big money stuff like Jags etc to make a living, none would make a living from Triumphs unless they are some TR's.

But they can charge good money as their numbers are dropping and not being replaced.

Lots of the Triumph specialists sub contract out the body work to smaller companies and do the mechanics themselves I think.

I know of a welder who is about £10 an hour, but the waiting list is very long, and you have to wait for an opportunity to get considered for the waiting list let alone get the work done.

I have a tame bodywork guy that fits my budget, but I tend to be rescuing basket cases and get them Road-worthy rather than top notch.

I'm on my ninth "quote" from local businesses for repairs to the GT6. Five of those said a resounding NO from the word go - the impression is that it's just too small fry for their business despite the fact that my money is as good as anyone else's. Of the other four that came out to inspect the car, they're all either old, and cutting down on their workload, or else booked solid until next Spring. Yes, they can do it, but not this year.

  • 1 year later...

I had a post from him on Monday that he is doing fine (his wife's funeral was on 9 April I think) but there was a post on Facebook today about leaving NGH/NGH (whatever that is... maybe a hospital...?) for home so he is around just not moving quickly...
