Black Cat
Hi, Is there an alternative product that can be used for the door hinge and striking plate shims rather than buying purpose made one off the shelf? I was thinking something like a sheet gasket and cut them out myself.
Clive
No reason why not. Gasket paper available in a variety of thicknesses. Or if you need more, sheet plastics will work. Polyethylene is tough and a bit flexible.
Colin Lindsay
Clive's right: think plastic rather than metal or paper for thicker shims; no rust, for one thing. The rubber seal for the rear of the door catch on the b-post (Heralds) is no longer available; easily made from an old inner tube, cut to shape; but if you need to shim it then plastic is the way to go. Pete Lewis
you are best to avoid anything slippery on hinges or strikers . as the face needs to grip Pete

Guess not. LOL.
Pete Lewis
fee; free to use whatever floats your boat !!! agree long lasting plastic stuff is a more modern idea but you may find the door drops and the striker shifts the orig striker gasket is impregnated with some gritty stuff almost a double sided emery cloth ...loads of grippy ha !!
