  4. IMO the maplin 5 watt solar panel is too small , Mine is 40 watts and minimum would be 20 watts Regards Paul
  5. Aldi have a special offer on air tools coming up https://www.aldi.co.uk/c/specialbuys/diy its best to buy on line as its free delivery also the promo dates are incorrect as they have a supply issue Regards Paul
  6. Hi my solar charging system was a left over from our Caravanning days - The panel was a free standing 40 amp panel which is now on the garage roof + regulator - the costs have plummeted over the last few years and pretty sure you can purchase the whole kit for £50 or so - though try to get a regulator with a readout like the one in the pic - I did originally have a £10 version with no readout and it took a month to work out it wasnt working !! - The one in the pic can handle 30 amps or so so way over the top for what you require . A good start is http://www.sunstore.co.uk/Portable-Solar-Chargers/ they are not the cheapest but their service is good and the equipment is reliable. The shorter the cable run from the panel to the regulator the better , if this isnt possible use a heavy cable - I think mine is 4amp , only using this as its left over from caravanning Paul NB most regulators have 2 output feeds like the pic - the second is tripped when the first battery is fully charged
  7. I'm using a solar panel plus regulator, works a treat . Not much sun at the moment but enough to maintain charge . The panel used is a 40 amp panel Paul
  8. I went to the tappet demo with Pete last year and found the visit well worth while and would like to attend any further demos Paul
  9. Thanks Pete for the definition - appreciated
  10. Please forgive the newbie questions - "You should feel VERY slight play - if you can feel end float, reduce shims - if preload, increase shims. When correct, take apart, grease and fit inner seal." Q1 I understand VERY slight play , but what is end float ? Q2 What is preload ? Thanks in advance Paul
  11. I read in Practical Classics this month that EP90 GL5 wasnt suitable for our classics . Not ever hearing about GL4 or GL5 mild panic ensued as I checked the label on the tin of Castrol EP90 . There was no mention of either so rang the help line and was advised that Castrol EP90 oil in their green tin was GL4 - Panic over Paul
  12. Another vote for Bilt Hamber Dynax S-50 Very easy to use and the probe lance provided makes accessing awkward areas a piece of cake . I used the probe for the inside of rear outriggers and the the probe has a 360 degree head so its a simple job of operating the can and withdraw the probe and all 4 sides covered in 1 go Regards Paul
  13. Thanks Pete for the silicon solution , found some in the shed which I had used on a model boat yonks ago , never throw anything away ????
  14. Thanks Ben , not sure how long the cable has been broken - Will the dizzy function in this state ? Regards Paul
  15. Hi Richard - thanks for Accuspark info and yes im going to Stoneleigh , are you selling or buying ? My Vitesse will be purely used for touring so reliability is the key issue Regards
  16. Is this oil ok ? at £15 for 5 litres seems good value - My car is a Mk2 Vitesse http://www.wilko.com/car-care-products/wilko-classic-car-oil-20w50-5l/invt/0342792 Regards Paul
  17. Just checked the distributor to check the advance retard by blowing through the tube and noticed there is a wire loose , the base rotated but the wire looks like its come away - is it a case of resoldering - the electronic points are accuspark and came with the car Checked and the accuspark seems to be very cost effective, are they reliable ? I was considering keeping a set of points as a spare or another accuspark Any input welcomed Paul

  21. Glad it's worked out , you might need a puller to release the bearing next to the rotoflex , using a mallet etc might damage the dust washer. I couldn't have offered this info a year ago
