  1. This post is intended to bridge the knowledge gap from the newbies ( me included ) and the experts who keep this forum going

I bought this gearbox for spares or repair from a known source .
It did come with its alloy housing which I’ve removed . Note the 3 small springs are still there and the copper washer on the bottom stud . This prevent oil leaking

The box didn’t include the gearbox selector though made sure the securing studs were included

Is the input shaft reusable ?

The input shaft splines ok ?

The input shaft has some vertical movement

The next stage is to remove the cover top assembly and see what’s there .

Paul H I agree I've watched this thread & now seriously question "Have I put all the Parts back together correctly", mine was complicated as I fitted a single rail internals into a 3 rail case with J type overdrive. Interesting all the indent springs in the 3/4 syncro hub were broken, so they were replaced also new ball bearings, there's been no mention of potential damage of these so was mine a one off?.

I know in retrospect that I should have used a 3 rail reverse spacer tube instead of the longer single rail I assume this would have avoided me to seriously bend the reverse actuating lever!!

I’ll take that as a YES and start the post tomorrow with a pic . The first ? being having I bought the correct box

  3. I recently bought a second hand gearbox suitable for a Vitesse mk2 . I bought unseen from a known source and purchased for spares / rebuild . If I started a new thread would the experts on here guide me and anybody who wants to learn the basics and point out the good bad and the ugly . Hopefully the thread would prove to be a useful tutorial

Is that the long one? as opposed to the corners?

As to the graveyard, I recently bought a rear spring and radius arms from them. Very pleased with the stuff and the service. Happily recommend.

Hi Clive  . Yes it’s the long strip across the front . My current strip is dented .

  5. Big up for SPITFIRE GRAVEYARD . Ordered a centre chromed strip for my Vitesse bonnet from EBay on Sunday. Arrived by DHL within 2 days and the packaging was unbelievable, I think it would have survived being run over by a truck . I thought £20 deld was a fair price . I’m still looking for a CHROME MOULDING FRONT BONNET EDGE - VITESSE 13/60 part 706149

    This one intrigued me.

Hi Pete that was the brand I was looking at though hadn’t checked the videos . Looks like 8kw will heat my garage .

    This has made me interested.

Plenty of people have used them, the 5-8kw chinese ones for about £100. Needs a 12V supply, and half a brick out of the wall to run the inlet and exhaust, or if you run it outside the garage a bigger hole.

I would like to know how runnig costs compare to electric.

This is the type I’m considering . Meeting my Son in law next weekend he’s just fitted a 5kw diesel heater to his T25 VW Motorhome . I’ll report back with his findings

  8. Looking to add heating for occasional use in my garage , brick built 6m x 4m up and over door . I was considering a diesel heater like used in motor homes . Any body done this ? Don’t want to use electricity as up to the limit . I can fit outside and pipe in

The boot should have a hardboard panel, certainly in the convertible model; I don't know if the saloon had a separate one, screwed to the frame, or if it was attached to the seat.

The coat hook 'button' is attached to the roof about two inches back from the rear window pillar on the passenger side, maybe half an inch above the glass seal. If I can find photos of either, I'll post asap.

My Vitesse saloon has the panel screwed to the frame

  10. My SGS experience is crap , jacks lasted a year then leaked , compressor 2 years of limited use then oil sprayed every where . Just bought SIP 04383 QT100/10 . Much more expensive though low noise 57 decibels compared with 110 decibels . So far SIP 100 litre is behaving .

An old work mate sent me a local Ad for a nice Mk2 Vitesse, VERY expensive being sold by a classic car sale yard, but at what I think an unreasonable $36.5k ?

Comes complete with all weather equipment, sounds like a deceased estate?

Several years ago it was mooted there were under 30 true Vitesse's in Australia as they were ALL personnel imports,

As my mate says it's only worth that much if some idiot is prepared to pay it!

How much is that in Sterling ?
