  1. Hi Colin , earth lead is quite long so ok . Jacking up the sump has given some clearance but not enough to remove the U bolt. Jacking further starts to take up the body which won’t do the sump any good Paul
  2. Sorted the issue . When you jack the engine the springs release so ride up until they settle then the engine will rise without the body , Simples ! Paul
  3. Hi changing the steering rack rubber blocks to Poly . Off side done easily. Having trouble with near side as have to jack up the engine to give clearance to remove the u bolts . I have placed the jack with loadbearing piece of plywood under the sump . I have removed the 4 bolts holding the mounting rubbers so the engine should jack up giving the clearance I need. Jacking up the engine the whole car is lifting so looks like there are more bolts to remove. What have I done wrong ? Paul
  4. I think I heard the death rattle once , that’s all , oil pressure on startup goes to 70 to 75 then settles back to 45 to 50 at about 2700 revs Paul
  5. My filter is at approx 45 degrees . What’s the best fitting filter I should be using ? Paul
  6. Thanks for that . Yes the fuel gauge played up for a long time , suddenly going to zero then creeping back up. Because I couldn’t get the speedo out to change the regulator I added a digital version in line and this has improved the guage though pretty sure the guage is the incorrect one as full is 75% . I have a few old gauges and plan to swop over to see if I can correct the last 25% Lastly should I find myself in a long traffic queue again the best advice is to pull over and wait for the queue to clear ? Paul
  7. My Vitesse mk2 has a spin-off conversion plus I still have the original canister system. Which is the best system for the engine as I have access to use a service pit. Paul
  8. UPDATE , he’s a pic of the temp sender and gauge , I know they are not Triumph, what would the original sender look like ? I’ve just been checking the Vitesse , first time since the heating incident. I leant on the top hose and there was a gurgle sound which lasted for a few seconds . Guessing this could be trapped air I checked the overflow bottle and it’s very close to the original level so no problems . I did cack myself as on checking the dipstick it read zero , then I realised the dipstick wasn’t fully seated . The oil level is fine which for the Vitesse is halfway between the 2 marks. To be sure I will add the soda crystals to clear out any crud Paul
  9. Hi Clive , back at home and checked the radiator cap , it’s 7lbs and this is what WSM says 13 lbs was fitted to GT6 mk3 Paul
  10. What’s the downside with the auto box ? Paul
  11. https://www.barons-auctions.com/view-lot/3170/for-sale-at-barons-auctions-1977-triumph-2500-s 1977 TRIUMPH 2500 S Guide Price: £5,000 to £6,500 Paulm
  12. Saw this ad on fleabay ******Triumph Spitfire 1500 3.63 ratio differential. Smooth diff with very little backlash. Obviously difficult to check to know how quiet it is without driving the car which was just not possible but I have no reason to suspect there is anything wrong with it. If it was found to be faulty I would have it collected and refund in full. Diff casing is a four hole type for the spring so needs to be used on a swing spring car**** Whilst I am not looking to change from my 3.89 ratio diff on my Vitesse mk 2 which has 6 hole type, does swing spring mean transverse spring and are 4 hole and 6 hole interchangeable ? Paul
  13. Hi . The MGF seats slide forward and our dog can be easily seated. Pete did a tilt forward conversion on his seats. Pretty sure he’ll be along to explain . If you want to go a stage further you can add a heated seat conversion which I have done Paul
  14. Another vote for MGF seats . Comfortable , fully adjustable , headrests . I have the black leather option and are in keeping with the Vitesse . The conversion is straight first and instructions on this forum Paul
  15. This is the link for M12 stud upgrade . Not a difficult upgrade . Paul
  16. I’m away from the Vitesse for a while now. Oil is Classic Oils 20/50 did notice oil pressure dropped on tickover when hot maybe below 5 . When re started up to 75 and settled at just below 50 when cruising at 2800 revs in od . I’ll check the rad cap when i get back . Rad shouldn’t be blocked as it’s a recon with 2500 miles . Plan is to use the soda and flush . Where did the cup or so of water go from the plastic bottle , overflow or steam, not that I saw any . Paul
  17. Look what I found in Mrs H cupboard Paul
  18. Hi it’s a yellow plastic fan thanks for all input . Will go down the plastic soda route and opt out of parade runs in future 😎 Paul
  19. Hi Pete, I’ll check the sender details , though would like to think the gauge is accurate as the normal range is 82 to 92 and when at rest after a run gauge goes to 105 . Nb the dash gauge is modern What happens if the radiator “ boils over “ Paul
  20. Hi John . Radiator , hoses, heater matrix , heater return pipe all replaced 2 years ago. 30% antifreeze , radiator cap 7 lbs Paul
  21. Went on a run today organised by https://www.centre81.co.uk/events/. . We’ll organised and over 100 entries and well worth supporting . We ended up by going in convoy along Gt Yarmouth front but it was nose to tail making very slow progress with frequent stops for close to 30 minutes . The weather was mid 20’s and there were a few casualties with overheating. My Vitesse mk2 has an electric water temp gauge and the normal range is 82 to 92 then back down . Today temp went up to 115c finally went back to 110 as the pace picked up a bit. Arriving at the parking area my Vitesse engine cut out and refused to start probably due to fuel evaporation . I did try using the heater and blower to cool things down but not sure how much this helped My newbie question is was 115 safe and what could have happened . I keep the expansion plastic bottle about half full and this will need topping up as it currently about 1inch from the bottom of the bottle, checked when the engine had cooled down Paul
  22. How do you then calculate the standard psi ? Paul
  23. I found this works on my Mk2 Vitesse so now fill between the marks Paul
  24. Dave , what’s the standard compression for the Mk2 Vitesse ? Paul
