    Buying a Car

Personally I wouldn’t buy a classic unless I could inspect the underside . Arrange for a local garage to inspect for you and take somebody along who understands our cars . Where are you based ? Paul

    Here Goes!

Here’s a pic of slivers caught in the filter . Each sliver is enough to block the float valve and stop the petrol getting through . My issue was caused by fake R9 tubing from Fleabay , you need Gates Barricade from the Club though if buying quantity Moss is cheaper Paul

    Here Goes!

Suggest getting carburettor cleaner aerosol . Ideal for carbs and cleaning off brake assemblies . Toolstation and Screwfix has this and it’s cheap . When I had carb issues a squirt in the air filters would assist starting especially in the winter If you post a pic of the plugs one of the gurus will give you the lowdown as to what tweaks might be required Paul
  4. I bought one from a Rover 25 from EBay , looks exactly the same as Richard’s . Having the plug made made wiring easier . I fitted the warning wire to a warning lamp to alert for accidental trip. Paul
  5. Here’s s more expensive Vitesse . This was at Duxford today . Whilst condition was good there was still rust bubbles evident Paul

  7. Hi Andrew . Well spotted . I’ve checked and whilst they are not in fully they are catching the groove in most places. When I changed the ujs 3 years ago the circlips wouldn’t fit so I ground them down a fraction . I didn’t realise I could get thinner ones so will get some and replace . If I can not sort in situ I will have to remove the drive shaft and doughnut assembly ??? Lovely job 😡 I did notice the Ujs had grease on the outside and removing the blanking screw the grease was still fresh so looks like there’s plenty in there , Thanks again for spotting the issue Paul
  8. Assuming you can fit a grease nipple then the following could well work https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-AK447-Needle-Nose-Grease-Dispenser/142591095762?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40733%26meid%3D083a6c48ea7a4fb4978286bb41378630%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D152707766010%26itm%3D142591095762%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2481888&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A0459c7ab-ca8e-11e9-a301-74dbd180287d|parentrq%3Adeb7ee5b16c0a4b7fc886349ffdb6b10|iid%3A1 Paul
  9. I was checking the diff oil level and also took a look at the UJ,s . They are greaseable and the flat screw came out but tried a long grease nipple but it wouldn’t fit as the collar of the extended nipple caught against the yoke and cross threading felt highly likely I suppose I need a short one ? Paul
  10. Smoked salmon packaging . The base is a dense cardboard type material plus a layer of foil . There is also a thin plastic layer which can easily be peeled off. Could this be used for hard to find / expensive / temporary gaskets ? Paul
  11. Should active forum members wear a badge to identify ourselves 😎 at Duxford or create a list of vehicle no’s. Im planing to be there in my Vitesse WBL 281H Paul
  12. Yes it’s a carpet plus it’s very useful as a wine cooler 😀
  13. Hi Tanky, the rubber fuel spec you need is called Gates Barricade and sold by the Club Shop . Don’t be tempted by EBay and R9 grade which should be ethanol proof as there is a lot of fake on there Paul
  14. If your spit is running fine then to me the smell will be down to a fuel leak of some kind and suggest tracing the fuel line from the carbs to the fuel pump then back to the tank . Running your hand under the carbs will double check this isn’t e cause. My bet is that it’s down to tubing breaking down . Paul
  15. Found this site for swing back mirrors https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/379-container-swing-back-mirror Just need to choose the best style plus spec convex 😜 Paul
  16. Hi Richard , many thanks for info and now understand the swing back principle and explains that this is what I need as I’m always knocking the mirrors in the garage and resetting them even though they are currently useless ! . So the spec is Swingback rectangular concave . I’ll do my homework and add to Santa’s list for Xmas Paul
  17. Thanks Richard for update , heres a couple of convex mirrors i found which could suit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TEX-WING-MIRRORS-NOS-AUSTIN-MORRIS-WOLSELEY-RILEY-MG-ROVER-FORD-CLASSIC-CAR/362736117571 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DESMO-WING-MIRROR-NOS-AUSTIN-MORRIS-ROVER-TRIUMPH-SUNBEAM-FORD-MG-CLASSIC-CARS/362736114520 When you say swingback do you mean if the mirrors are knocked they are on a spring system to save bonnet damage ? Paul
  18. Mark, the original spec Desmo mirrors , are they round or rectangular ? Paul
  19. Hi , checked and my overtaking mirror looks to be the same design as the club shop ( held on by 2 grub Alan key bolts ) . I think my issue must be the door vibration rather than the mirror . Thanks for your input and will try again, I think the price I paid was about £18 each Paul
  20. Hi Richard , thanks for photos my mirrors are not convex so this looks like the source of my vision issues . Your mirrors are wider than mine which are 4 ins diameter . Looks like I need convex mirrors or change to rectangular . What’s the width of your mirrors ? Paul
