  1. Hi all I think I'm ready for getting the engine back in but before doing so I've cleaned out the clutch bell housing (clutch and brake cleaner). Before re-connecting are there any areas inside the housing that needs a dose of lubrication and if so what with. Thanks Adrian
  2. Really just trying to tidy things up. I suppose I could pull it through to behind the dash.
  3. Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading my fuse box and will pots a new topic as and when I get round to it. For now if you could help on the following: 1. In the picture this ...capacitor style component had been added at some point... any ideas, can I remove it? It's attached to the wiper motor loom. 2. I have a redundant alarm loom, can it be cut and isolated or will it be best to trace and remove each wire? thanks as always Adrian
  4. Hi Pete Useful information - all builds the knowledge. The clutch system failure file doesn't work (because of the LUK after the .) For ease I've renamed it. ClutchSystemFailures.pdf
  5. Ran out of club triumph white today. Club was waiting for stock. Found a local supplier who mixed and filled aerosols while you wait. They found the right code and matched very well. I really thought I’d struck gold for emergency supplies. I managed to finish the job but it was very clear that the paint was a lot thinner than the club paint and didn’t cover half as well. Just thought I’d share!
  6. They are out and nasty under seal removed. No rust nearly all black still on. No more por15 rust paint but engine enamel, tie coat primer and topcoat still in cans. Was thinking a coat wouldn’t hurt!

    One owner gt6

Spoke to a colleague at work today and he says his neighbor has a GT6 under a tarp in his garden slowly rotting away. He has owned it from new. Apparently about 40k on the clock. He’s tried a couple of times to buy it off him but I think he has strong sentimental attachments. Not sure which but a MK1 or 2. I wonder if I could persuade the missus? I’ve got to start her 1980 mini 1000 yet (I say hers but I bought it!).
  8. My seats are low back recliners no headrest. It may take a while to get an answer but may be worth asking Owen as he did me a set of rear wheel arch trims that weren’t listed on his website. If he does vinyl non recliner I’m sure he will do leather.
  9. Hi all, probably another t-shirt question. What light components should I have? When I stripped them down I had the full light bowl and the beam unit and a rubber seal on one. Obviously I need a set of seals but do I need the half bowl?
  10. Taking into account the contrasting approach. I’ve got the polished Ali trays that the bracket sits on. Sufficient contrast to continue on body colour (white) or still the black? I’ve actually got plenty of the high solids por15 engine enamel so could use that if black is favourable ive also got the carb cleaner aerosol and intend to clean the outside with wire brush/wool....sensible?
  11. I got the leather seats, I stuck with the standard vinyl trim. All very good
  12. I have to say I have an indoor carcoon and it is fantastic.
  13. Hello all At last the engine bay is stripped to metal and I'm prepping for painting. I know most brackets are black and SS is also available but I'm going to re-use the existing. Its an easy one as I'm just asking opinion - I'm thinking body colour? Also, prior to painting the battery box is it worth giving it a soak in Bicarb to neutralise any historic acid? Cheers Adrian
  14. Hi all I dropped Owen a line yesterday and he has just responded saying he hopes all heart health issues will be sorted after the op. He's working 50% and has updated his webpage. Fingers crossed he will be around fit and well for many years to come!
  15. When I said glove box/footwell I meant additional. Not standard
  16. Morning Chaps Still cleaning that vile gunk of underseal off the car. It appears the front of the car has had repairs on both L/R front chassis rails (just checking for clarity that this is the correct description, not outriggers as they are behind the front wheels attaching the body tub). The repairs aren't significantly corroded but they are only half the gauge of the original chassis 1.1mm rather than 2.2mm. They seem solid - nothing wobbles. Whilst I don't intend to crash I cant see a difference of 1mm affecting impact damage. Replace or ignore - advice please? Thanks Adrian
  17. I bought instrument leds from the club shop. Not as cheap as ebay buy most definitely a vast improvement. Will be looking for interior an glovebox/footwell leds as well in due course
  18. Perhaps if a new 'how to' section allows specific users to edit posts the main legwork, pics and text can be done by others with a specialist edit to tweak any miss understandings? Sounds pathetic but to a novice like myself just taking my engine out was a nervous event and still worry about ensuring everything goes back again. I keep saying to myself - did I torque up those big end bolts, perhaps the experienced mechanic does a checklist? too late for me but maybe useful information to others?
  19. I thought it was spot on. I have learnt from reading the manuals and forums / internet. This was the first opportunity to actually see things being done. You can't beat the first hand experience gained from standing next to someone doing it and dispelling the nervousness of attempting it myself. Throughout the day Pete asked us what areas we were most interested in and if he could, addressed it with actual members cars. I did have a thought regarding getting the most out of the day and retaining the knowledge. Understandably video is too difficult to film well and get the best out of the day for the attendees. So what about the attendees or others experienced in certain procedures posting a pictorial step by step guide on a dedicated area of the forum - using non-technical terms, a sort of 'How to Guide for Dummies' ? It was discussed that the older Couriers contained more how to guides. Just a thought - Adrian
  20. I noticed new old stock carb maintenance kits on eBay sold by ang. Any views, they look like original boxes. Not that I necessarily need any of them but would the diaphragms still be in tact? adrian
  21. Really enjoyed it and my thanks to club staff and especially Pete and Ray for their instruction. My carbs will be on the kitchen table over this week! Nice to know I'm not alone on the learning journey! Adrian
  22. Richard, agreed....that would be commitment. I should have checked the footer!
  23. Keith, are you attending on Sunday, if so I can bring my old shafts over for you to look at? i think the comment of oversized shafts is likely to be bull as the bearings wouldn't fit! They were probably selling shims meant for another part/model. you certainly wrecked that spacer, are you comfortable the shafts are ok?
  24. Exactly what I have Keith. I didn't use a jack to raise the spring lifter, once back axle was supported I just lifted with an axle stand ratchetting up underneath until it was high enough. As Richard said a joy to use! Paul - you will need to take the tension to allow fitting to the vertical link (unless of course they've designed it to slip in from the back with the vertical link still in-situ) - which I doubt as without lifting the tension it would most likely foul on the VL brackets. I think the highlighted text says it all - 'Once assembled into the VL' Cheers Adrian
