  1. I'm in a somewhat similar situation and have ordered one of these from fleabay 301042038916 i'm not sure its the right thing but I can let you know - Again this is to earth through the body of the gauge hence just the one contact, If you have a similar gauge, you should be able to earth it as I will, the insert tube for the bulb is metal and already earthed. I'm not sure what you mean by the "Charging light", do you mean the ignition light? I am replacing a plastic two wire one as I am swapping out all my bulbs for LED. If it works I could always send you the one I'm replacing the bulb is still fine! Aidan
  2. I can recommend speedograph They have reconditioned my rev and speedometer plus supplied my cables and I've had no issues since Aidan
  3. I have the Aluminium replacement and yes it does not droop! The idea is to force more air through the radiator fins rather than escape around it and it does make a difference. The material looks similar to the replacement glove boxes i have which started to curl up. I think you could use the same solution I used, which was to cut out some this ply wood and epoxy glue it to the card to stiffen it up. I would be concerned that your droop is stopping the airflow through the radiator rather than helping maybe? Or just replace it with an Ali one! Aidan
  4. Hi Nicky I assume you have also fitted a new condenser along with the points? With these you should now only have one thin wire coil to distributor along with the HT king lead Just a thought - if you could add a picture or two it might help Aidan
  5. Nice read Just back from a small tour ourselves to France and joined John Bonnet on the Grand Prix de Chinon half way through 1600 miles all in in the GT6. Only a few small issues with the car mainly due to the 40 degree heat but no breakdowns Aidan
  6. Doug What contact point did you use to lift the engine? Mind you Ive not checked how tight the bolts actually are DOH!!!! Aidan
  7. Hi The rocker cover gasket you need is the cork one. The silicone I understand is only for the alloy covers and does not fit the standard cover A simple job to replace as you say I added some sealant to in a long bead which has helped to stop all my rocker cover oil leaks I would also be interested in what others say about the sump gasket replacement I know it can be done with a bit of a fiddle without engine removal but it sounded a bit fiddly I wondered if there was a third way such as dropping the rack or whatever currently makes it such a fiddle Aidan
  8. Hi Pete I have the correct min level when I added a further litre to find the max it went well over the original max level After covering 1500 miles in France it was pretty much back down to the min level That's still within the tolerances Dave has kindly stated so I am not going to worry The oil pressure has been good all the way to Thanks for the info both Aidan
  9. Sorry for opening this one up again but it's a simple question Using a good quality 20W50 oil and with no particular oil leaks. what miles per litre would be needed to start thinking about looking at getting work done to resolve? Thx Aidan
  10. Hi Colin it will arrive at some point and then you will wonder how you managed without it We got high speed about a year ago in a remote part of Derbyshire From one mb an hour (ha) to 56 a second Can't believe how I managed Aidan
  11. So here is the problem (with Accuspark anyway) http://www.accuspark.co.uk/fitting_guide.html Clearly says that it will not work with a 1.4 ohm or below coil Aidan
  12. I'm with Pete on the 6v 12v issue Accuspark are not the best so if you do have the 6v set up I don't think it will work You may also have a new 3 ohm coil but still the resistive wire replace the coil feed with a temporary from the battery Then see if you get a spark Do check which coil you have it won't be happy with a perm 12v use this only as a test Aidan
  13. I now have some history at least on the change of colour and rebuild All done in 1984 when the car was on its last legs at the ripe old age of 16! It was rebuilt and re-sprayed in red by a retired carpenter (yes carpenter) and his son I will add some pictures when I've found out how my new scanner works! They are 35mm poloroids! Aidan
  14. Hi Dave Perfectly possible For me the loose rotar caused a misfire and loss of power After taking off the cap and refitting the rotor it was fine for a few miles then started all over again That rotar I could just lift off without effort the replacement was a firm push to fit So just to confirm I think your rotar not being fitted correctly would cause your symptoms Aidan
  15. Hi - agree with Colin here I have had some real problems with a few rotars I'm currently using a Simonbbc red which along with the nos ones I've purchased as spares has a "bobble" on the top of the contact so reaches the centre connector on the cap more easily Aidan (In France and covered 800 miles plus without any issues)
  16. I did it over the winter period as I could not keep the switch cap in place on the gear switch It's a gearbox cover off job but the wiring is very simple and you do need a new cowel as Pete says. Some switches are better than others to, mine at the moment is too loose to my mind It also takes time getting used to the change. Aidan
  17. Have you tried Dave @ spitfire graveyard? Aidan
  18. Good run out today back roads to dual carriageway and no sign of any issue I guess it can only be duff replacement parts Anyway I will have a nice stock of them by the end of the week!!! Aidan
  19. Hi Wayne checked with Canleys and they no longer have them They now seem to be rare beasts indeed I have found someone who might have some and who is checking for me Aidan
  20. Thanks and purchased! Btw just checked the old cap Sitting it on a glass plate it is not flat and rocks I know it actually sits on the ledge but it does hint at poor quality I will soon have oe rotors and cap ???? Aidan
  21. You might be lucky and pick an original or similar up at somewhere like spitfire graveyard He will send you a picture if you ask and he has one Aidan
  22. You can use self amalgamating tape It's waterproof and as it's name suggests binds to itself Really odd but wonderful stuff You would obviously have to wrap it multiple times around the pipe Aidan
  23. Pete I think the register on the cap is too small for the female slot in the dizzy body I have been able to source some NOS Delco rotors, so I think that is hopefully part of the solution. This evenings test run - exactly the same route to the MOT station and back (Did I say it had Passed!!) and not a hint of the problem GRRRRR. Maybe I just had a bad rotor? or maybe i did not get the cap to sit correctly Anyway Collection of spares being purchased and a few more test runs me thinks Aidan
  24. True Pete, but three times in a row? i will see what happens this evening
  25. H&H rebuilt this dizzy a few years ago so I don't really want to bin it I have seen a Delco "Quality" Cap and rotor arm being sold by Simon-bbc. I know from other threads his kit is good, and the rotor arm he's selling has a "bobble" on the top similar to those sold by Holden Classics Another test this evening, though I'm not sure what it is that causes the alteration - could be high revs? low revs? or just mileage It would be helpful if anyone else has sourced these and their experience or can advise on an alternative source Thx Aidan
