  1. You’ll also be very hard pressed to find a GT6 wing with the petrol cap cutout already in place.
  2. Easiest would be if you took some photos of the engine, gearbox, mountings etc. Then we’d be able to be more certain of what you’ve got and advise accordingly
  3. The input shaft splines are different on the three rail and single rail gearboxes, so they can’t take the same clutch plate. The 1500 engine was shipped with a three rail gearbox in the 1500TC, US Spitfires etc though. What does your gearbox look like? Is it the same as your old 13/60 one or obviously different?
  4. Looks like the same engine plate from this diagram at least https://www.ukmgparts.com/catalogue/mid-midcat-2-submid2-engine-1500-external-parts Another option is the engine plate being bent if the engine has been in a crash… Fingers crossed it’s not that though!
  5. Have you attached the engine mounts to the right (forward) side of the suspension turrets? There should also be a spacer plate between the engine mount and the turret. The engines are the same dimensions externally, so it shouldn’t foul. The single rail 1500 gearbox is a bit longer if I remember correctly, and switching to a Herald 3 rail box requires other work (clutch change, flywheel too I think?) but there are other threads covering that if you do turn out to need the info
  6. So. The crankshaft seal housing has had a metric bolt forced in to it…
  7. Simple, kind of, quick, not at all! I have the gearbox back together now but it’s taken most of the day. I thought it was possible to get the 3/4 hub off with the main shaft in situ (might be it is with a 3 synchro box?) but it isn’t so I had to take everything apart. Oh well. The other casualty of the trip was the crankshaft oil seal. It was drippy before, but now oil is pouring out. So with the gearbox out I’d better deal with it…
  8. Fourth was easier. The shift hub is not held by the circlip, so nominally it’s movement will not be affected for the shift to fourth gear, but with third being not held in its proper position, that’ll probably be making a mess of the mesh of the various gears with the lay shaft.
  9. Diagnosis confirmed, the circlip is at fault. Found half of it at the bottom of the casing. Fortunately everything else looks fine.
  10. I’ve never tried a high torque unit. I figure the original style has been perfectly adequate for my cars for 50+ years so not worth spending extra on! Dave at the Spitfire Graveyard I’m sure will be able to sort you out with a decent replacement if it turns out to be needed for a fraction of a high torque unit.
  11. I’ve done it using a four post lift, don’t think I’d try just on stands as reaching everything needed was still a bit awkward.
  12. I will have a search for what I’ve got hopefully over the weekend and check what you’re like. I do have a repro pair in good condition, and an original pair that are probably perished. My Spit is suffering from a broken gearbox though so will have to be getting that dealt with first I’m afraid.
  13. Yeah this is also my suspicion…
  14. From the look of the thing, I’d maybe use bits of your repair section to patch the bit cut from an original bonnet. But don’t weld the whole thing in unless you really have to. The more localised you can keep any repairs the better (less heat and so less chance of distortion). Myself I’d probably fit the chunk of nose you’ve bought to the car first, then do any further repairs to that in place, keeping them as small as possible.
  15. Try the various breakers. Spitfire Graveyard, Spitbitz, perhaps Wins Ltd. I can definitely sell you a second hand pair myself though if you don’t mind having a spare sitting.
  16. Many classic insurance brokers will include it, and if not they’ll offer it as an extra.
  17. My colleague’s Dolly Sprint, and a few other things encountered along the way! Can’t imagine there are many of the Standard 8/10 van about.
  18. Yeah I think it’s gearbox internal I’m afraid Andy. I’ve got enough bits that hopefully any cost will be gaskets regardless. Just can’t really be bothered with taking the box out!
  19. Had a good run down to the midlands and met a few classics along the way (photos to follow!). Then lost gear shift functions turning on to the A444 the morning after… On my way back home in a tow truck right now.
  20. Looks like both photos have far more holes than normal! There should be two holes in the LH wheel arch in the triangular shaped pressing which lines up with the centre of the wheel.
  21. Phew. The title made me worried it was the garage that had burned!
  22. I have a tin of coach enamel from here https://paintman.co.uk/ mixed in Valencia which I’m using for the chassis. The finish comes out OK. The colour match is not great, but it’s the chassis so I’m not too bothered…
  23. Oh. Interesting. I have seen something like that recently on a video about changing a Seat Leon timing belt. Bigger bolt but the same style. Will they fit a multi point socket?
  24. On top of Andy’s comments, the dot5 purple colour is not very apparent in a small sample, it can look near colourless.
