It was a known design flaw in the 3-door Metro. The filler cap got re-designed on later ones.
Correct Rob, many accidents were caused by the fuel pouring out onto the nsr wheel..... lethal when raining. It was mainly caused by a non standard fuel cap being used, but Austin Rover moved the filler neck higher up the body.

Have you lubricated the linkages and cam that it operates on Woody? Sometimes that makes them stiff...

Has the cable actually snapped?

Also starting the car now and again is an engine killer Euan, unless you are giving it a 10 mile run leave it alone and just charge the battery.

Hi Tony . Brake fluid is still clean so would have to measure before stopping
Paul
It just looked a bit murky the photo Paul, so it would be a bit difficult.

Hi lads and thanks again. I did not remove the skew gear so that is no problem.
It was the pedestal that I called the 'sleeve' in my OP.

I just use gravity Paul and when clean fluid comes through tighten up the bleed nipple.

Back in my rallying days in the 70's it was either Koni, Bilstein or Boge that was used by the top crews, not an adjustable in sight. They are just to hard and as soon as you hit a bump in the road in the wet you were in the scenery. Ok for tarmac circuit but not for our potholed roads.

It's a shame Lucas didn't copy Bosch with their distributors and have a mark on the body where the rotor pointed to, no marking up no hassle. If ever i take a dizzy out i mark it with a small chisel.

Just a thought, is it the inner or outer cable that has gone? If you are lucky you might get away with putting the inner in and keeping the light as Mjit mentioned above and fit the knob Colin found

I think in the early 80's Pete. I think its one of those things that if they are fitted they must work. If the windscreen will open it doesn't matter either way.

That one looks a lot better Colin. I can't find a descent pic of one. The Stag one is mega bucks as it's a double

you could cut the spline off and fit one of these adaptors to the old shaft
available https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/ca395-wiper-convertor-shaft-to-spline
Plus one for those Pete, they work really well but do look better if you can find a hex grub screw instead of the bolt.

Depends if it's a daily driver Euan? I only replace the battery if it packs up, but i do look after them. I have 3 Triumphs and to date not replaced a battery. I would see what deals are are on fleabay and go for a descent warranty. my 2500s only has a 38ah battery on (015) and it was on the car when i bought it 6years ago.

Any pointers as to what it looks like or why it's individual to the 2000? I can help search but need to know what to look for.
Any idea of part number?
They have a pull knob that matches the other switches Colin.

I wouldn't bother with "thick fit" Jeff, bunch of morons who haven't a clue Try and find a local tyre bay, small place. You will get proper advice from them not how much they can empty your wallet by....
