  1. I've owned my spit 1500 for over 20 years and was wondering if any previous owners out there recognise it. It was registered in 1980 spitfire 1500 white registration RGK3V. But later changed to GBW678V. Original number is now on a 96 Land rover. I have a lot of history with the car which includes TSSC valuation certificates. For 1994, 95, 98 & 2000. Owner Rick Roberts tssc number 93/441259. I also have the attached photo which came with the file of history. Looks like it was taken at Duxford. Danny
  2. Never noticed any difference on my spit 1500. I took the spoiler off some years ago and fitted the mk4 valance. I do drive on motorways at 70 and above. I admit my car is lower than standard at the front. Danny
  3. From the photo it looks like the lens retaining rims are too far out. Danny
  4. I didn't think they come with covers anymore, unless they have started remaking them. I was lucky to get one on ebay some years ago. At one point I was going to make one from stainless steel to replace the snapped of one. Danny
  5. Go on YouTube and search for Moss. They have a number of "How to" videos . One of them shows how to test and adjust the regulator. Danny
  6. They are the best but a lot of money if you only use it once. There are cheaper claw types on ebay for around a 10 quid. Danny
  7. Same as my duplex sprocket. Can't be flipped so only half tooth adjustment. Danny
  8. Just made a quick spring compressor this morning to remove the shocks on the spit. I hated the claw compressors so made one from two old discs, and used the threaded part of the old claw clamps. Just 4 holes and your ready to go.
  9. As Peter says, the wiring can be a problem. Over the years of oil, heat and movement it becomes iffy. If the switch itself needs changing, I have. Have found the replacements to be poor quality and never lasted long. I ended up with an Healey 3000 works type. The thread is different so the gearlever will need to be re-threaded to match.

  11. The reinforced one looks longer. The one i bought was too short and only lasted 20 minutes. Can you measure the reinforced one and let me know where yo got it. Thanks Danny
  12. I got mine cut at Timkins at my local Tesco. He had some Rover blanks that matched. Danny
  13. I made up some alloy covers as the boots were too tight fit over the adjustable pushrods and kept coming off. I also sealed around the aperture with p shape seal.
  14. I had a head gasket fail recently. Compression test ok. But when I pressurised one of the cylinders with a leakdown test I had bubbles in radiator. Danny
  15. I believe the capping on a mk1 &2 allows for the front edge of the softop to tuck under. What I remember with my 1965 spit which I owned over 50 years ago, there are flat metal in the front of the hood that tucks into the he groove. Long one in the middle and 2 small ones at the corners. You need to make sure it's the right screen capping. Danny
  16. After a rolling road tune my spit is set too 17 deg btdc. Using high octane fuel. Danny
  17. My speedo is accurate up until 40mph according to my tomtom, but then starts to over read. 80mph is about 72 on the sat nav. Danny
  18. You are correct, they made a mistake with the 40 years historic rules which they corrected so cars can use black and white plates up to registration year 1979. Danny
  19. Probably to do with the time it takes to cure. Danny
  20. There is a good documentary on YouTube about the Harrison clocks. H1, 2, 3 and 4 to determine longitudes, which worked in poor visibility. They still have these at the Greenwich Observatory Danny

    Sump plug leak

    Some ptfe tape will do it. I would jack up the car that side as high as I could to get the sump plug out without loosing to much oil. Danny
  22. That's the adjustable thermostat for a Kenlowe electric fan. Danny
  23. Yes mine are. No problem at all. But what I did do was to drill and bolt through the face of the bracket and the radiator support. Because the brackets are held with the radiator support bolts and if you want to remove the rad you have no support for the bonnet. Danny
  24. I'm sure when I got mine some years back, there was a warning it would not fit spits with the two intake tubes. Never worried me because I have K&N filters. Danny
