    Fuel hose

My Spit 1500 is 8mm from tank to just before the carbs where it converts to 6mm for carb connections. Electric fuel pump, can't remember if it was 6mm from the old mechanical pump. But always bee 8mm from tank to engine bay. Danny
  2. I also have a Bosch 0221119030 model coil which was fitted to my 1500 Spit. It says 12v but it is definitely a ballast coil. Danny
  3. When I fitted osram night breakers and relays some 12 years ago. I fitted new plastic bowls but cut the domes so I could change the bulbs without going through the rigmarole of removing the cowling etc. After all you mainly need to change a bulb at night when you realise a bulb is blown. Never had any problems with damp as the rubber boots keep it dry. Danny
  4. I believe there is only one size for the front. But there are two sizes for the rear depending on short or long drive shaft models. I have a set of used front braided in the garage also from Rimmers which are 20 years old. I will measure them and report back. Danny
  5. My Spit 1500 ones were working perfectly well, until I never used them for 2 years. Same problem won't unlock. Last week I took the door cards off and spayed 3 in 1 oil everywhere. Wiggled the catch inside a couple of dozen times and then keeps using the key. I did this wulith the door open and used a screwdriver to latch the lock to simulate closing the door. Now works a treat. Danny
  6. I used one from a mini on my Spit 1500. Almost the same but the angle is slightly different but can easily be bent to resemble the Spit one and is much cheaper. https://www.plminishop.com/Classic_Mini_Electrical_Parts/1761/product.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw_L6LBhBbEiwA4c46ujoupVwFTfwmyEOHqkns9wqqacZ5zz3zhZmTPRBFP_DxISYFqHO7_BoCAtQQAvD_BwE

    LIDL/ALDI TOOLS

Lidle parkside batteries are interchangeable. I have the impact driver and the impact wrench both great value. My impact wrench (400n) undid my crank nut on the Spit 1500 no problem, although I did heat the nut up with a blow torch first. Danny
  8. It could be that the top came from another Spitfire. A new top would normally be fitted and glued in warm conditions to each car and can be a little tight during cold weather. How does it fit around the top of the side windows,. Have a word with the previous owner if you can to get some idea of the history. Danny
  9. That's exactly what I did on my 1500 Spit to get more lift. Made all the difference. Danny
  10. Remember when it's fitted tothebootypu not only have the weight of the boot but it also acts as a lever., so closi g the ram is easier. Does it have the Newton forch on the ram. On my 1500 Spit I have a 400n ram which is easy to close fitted to the boot lid but impossible to close by hand before fitting. Danny
  11. I have noticed an oil weeping from the head bolt above the middle exhausts. Any suggestions Danny
  12. I notice I have oil weeping from the head bolt above the middle exhaust ports. Any suggestions Danny
  13. I replaced mine on the Spit 1500 about 6 years ago. The price of a new one was fairly high if I remember, so I purchased one from a mini supplyers. Almost the same switch but the angle of the stalk was slightly different but is easily bent to the right angle. If I remember it was about a third of the price at the time. Danny
  14. What about a Spit 1500 same tyre size. Danny

    DVLA

It does say not MOTd but has in small print "this vehicle may not require one" or something like that.

    DVLA

I also had my Spit taxed as historic on 1st April. Still not had the log book back. Online it still showed as sorn a week later. I contacted dvla online chat and they confirmed it was taxed and OK to drive. It can take 8 weeks to get the log book back. Danny
  17. My piston stop I can feel the piston just start to rock the bolt in the thread of the old sparkplug I made it from so I go very slow when turning the engine at that point. Also the end of the bolt is rounded to stop damage to the piston. Danny
  18. I'm insured with RH which includes recovery. In 2018 I was recovered from John O groats back to Essex during the RBRR. I can't fault them. Danny
  19. I've had this problem with the soft pedal for years. Pump it and it's solid. I have recently renewed the rear brakes and slaves and changed the braided lines on the front for rubber. But still after bleeding the pedal is still soft. So I clamped the front brake lines and the pedal is now rock hard. So I take it the calipers will need a rebuild. Is there any decent rebuild kits out there. Danny
  20. Yeah it's a picture of a picture on an article I wrote in Club Torque. But you can see the bracket is pop riveted into the bracing of the boot on the other side of the original bracket and sandwiched together by the strut. I didn't want to weld it. Danny
  21. Checked to boot strut. It's 500mm length with a 230mm stroke. 400n. This is a picture of the boot bracket I made to support the original bracket.
  22. I'll have a look at mine and report back later. Danny
  23. I did experiment with different forces of strut. 200n and you have to lift the boot all the way up. 600n and the boot will open on its own but is much too strong. The bracket on the boot needs to be 3 x the thickness of the original. The boots are heavy and the rack also adds to the weight on. mine.
  24. This is the one I made. Gas strut 400n I believe. Would be a lot less in a fiberglass boot. You will need to reinforce the bracket on the boot lid or it will bend it. Danny
