    Quandary

if it was me unless you desperately need the money i would hang on to it, lets face it value wise spitfire prices only going one way up, so even as a resto will be worth more in the future and its still yours, you could decide to restore latter on when its gone its gone no going back paul
  3. ok with out heat your going to struggle , have successfully drilled them out .

  8. if you have the space you could just buy a spares car , one on ebay runner for £800
  9. again plenty of used heads around why bother paul
  10. yes the hole engine , i sold a good 1200 with gearbox last year £600 delivered on a pallet they are around , problem is if you cant do the work yourself it gets expensive have you not a mate with a bit of mechanical knowledge dont need much on a herald paul.
  11. would have thought the easiest way would have been a good used lump £300> 500 tops , days labour tops . they are around, as soon as you start paying a garage for repairs its all down hill cost wise , would just tell him to do the basics get it running see what you have run it to the ground while you look for a good used paul
  12. no not quit the same as the good old days , but when you offer to make a bank transfer there and then it still works paul
  13. nothing better than looking in person , have purchased many bargains over the years being stood there to do a deal there and then money talks paul.
  14. good idea at least you can keep on top of rust issues paul
  15. thats what you need very expensive for what they are though
  16. vitesse do look good only problem you may have is how good the valance is behind the rubbers , the you will need to remove the mounting strips first before fitting the vitesse will properly need some valance repair work , i have personally done the conversion many times paul , 1 point you need a decent pop rivet gun
  17. also beware can destroy the metal fitting attached to the rear and side valance, you then end up with a lot of work even valance replacement unless you know all is solid i would leave well alone paul

    Fuel spill

you would be surprised how far they will travel on a carb bowl of fuel more than a few yards
  19. just got back from him tacking the car only for it to cut out 4 miles down the road my heart sank , time i got to him car was running again the idiot i am only put the coil wires back the wrong way round quick swop and he reported drove him 20 miles home no problems .
  20. no idea all i know its running fine, not even tempted to fit the old one back just to see in case it all goes wrong again pauil
  21. just to add spot on again pete same as you no idea why going on the ramp and off could cause the problem still the carbs had a good clean now , still learning after 50 years messing with cars paul
  22. success went out this mourning usually starts on the button not today though turning like the timing was out strange, ok last night , so went through my pile of old spares found a complete dizzi took the rotor arm out swopped it with the new red type i fitted yesterday she fired straight up running great, now to get rid paul
  23. first thing i tried i dont want to start swopping parts as some of the new stuff has problems ,so using my stash of used where i can , hoping someone will come up with a answer as running out of ideas ,makes no sense goes up ramps like a rocket then after a week runs like a bag of nails paul
  24. my thoughts are let it run the when it shuts off disconnect the fuel pipe from the carb and pump ,if it then firs up at least i can eliminate fuel flow as the problem although sure its not fuel related now
