ahebron
Assuming that the airbox I have fitted to my 1965 Vitesse 6 (150CD Strombergs) should it have 3 or 4 holes under the rear carb filter? I only assume this is the correct airbox as I have many Triumph airboxes pass through my hands and have no idea if what I ended up fitting is the original. TBH it makes no difference to me as long as it works well.
Iain T
The one originally fitted to my mk2 has holes at the bottom rear as does one I bought off Fleabay. I think Triumph put the holes in the later models in an attempt to derestrict airflow to the rear carb? Iain
johny
I suppose those holes are a bit big just to drain any carb float chamber overflow?
GFL
I always thought the holes where for any fuel overflow to drain or possibly if water got into the airbox for that to drain out too? Some air boxes (Doly 1850 maybe?) have a slot instead of holes Gary
johny
yes and the holes would be at rear to reduce any fuel going on the hot exhaust manifold?
Pete Lewis
they are water drain holes nothing to do with carb flooding just dumps any rain from the intake tubes sitting in the air box petrol onto a hot manifold just vaporises and wont burn Now Dot3/4/5.1 Brake fluid that will burst into flames Pete
Stratton Jimmer
As I was just about to fit this to the Sixfire, you mean these holes:

Pete Lewis
17 minutes ago, Stratton Jimmer said: you mean these holes: yes petty obvious they are hardly big enough to aid any intake air . but any torrential rain sucked in the tubes will drain easy and on many moderns the brake resv is shielded to protect it on impact damage making a fire Pete
ahebron
And here was me thinking they where to allow more air to access the rear carb after the front one sucks all the air that comes in the font tubes.
Peter Truman
just tp confuse issues the Dolly Sprint Air box has two cold inlet pipes etal Vitesse BUT no drain holes for either fuel overflow or water sucked in! The air filter is the same as a Stag long and relatively flat with a large air flow capability in the air box over the filter to both the front and rear carb!
