Door interior light plunger switch

Make sure you get the same profile otherwise the door won't close - I found that by accident!! Original part number is 606240, claimed by many to be NLA. 606239 is the tailgate switch from the GT6, and looks as if it would fit. Leacy Classics had them:

However they were used on a variety of cars of the period, so just because Triumph suppliers say they're NLA doesn't mean they're not about.

Ha, theyre called Linread door switches and originals (theres different types) go for absolutely crazy money NOS or s/h especially if you put Mini Cooper, Escort Mexico or some such in the eBay advert. Ive never been impressed with them anyway so used new switches which fix using a small self tapper screw and the plunger is cut to length to suit the application.

I see Leacy are out of stock....

I wish I had polished up my old ones and put them on eBay at 80quid a pair🤑

HOW MUCH??? I have NOS sets I was keeping for my Heralds.

Photos show what you need to look for in replacements; they need to be almost flat or certainly lightly rounded. Linread is the flatter one to the right, I bought and fitted the other pair to my Estate then could never get the doors to fit. Turns out the door won't move any further forward if that switch body sticks out like that - an amazingly small amount but took a lot of head scratching to work it out! You can also get screw-on versions, but again they need to be flat.

I like the look of these Lucas 'pin switches', might invest in some.

These are also a possibility, they screw in from either end so you can adjust for length:

It’s worth pulling it out and seeing if there’s something to be cleaned straightened to bring it back to life. I had one on my Herald where the wire connection bit had come loose or something similarly trivial. There’s not much too them, so not much to be irreparably broken!

Josef, I agree it may be salvageable. The plunger is at an angle but does operate. Of course it could be some idiot (me) when fiddling under the dash has pulled the connection out! The drivers side operates OK. All will be revealed when I plunge into the dark mess that is my dash loom....

I titivated one of these back into action the other day on an XJ6. It's really hard to describe in words but careful examination (off the car) will show how the contacts make and break - and then some persistence with an acidic contact cleaner can get things going again. Multimeter with buzzer for continuity handy for this.

Or:

Try Moss UK for switch for E-type, which is generally similar. Look for part C16367. Had some a while back for about a tenner.

Easy to check - pull the switch out! If the wires aren't connected that's an instant tell-tale.

Iain I had one apparently fail eons ago when pulled out there was corrosion on the push in wire end where it earthed to the switch body a clean up and copper grease fixed it

I too have seen them on eBay for ridiculous prices but those Leacy ones look good and cheap might get a couple

Leacy are sadly out of stock; you can however get the flat varieties - I've found a few for sale elsewhere already this morning, both this one pictured, or the single screw variety:

I'm stripping the Herald out for partial respray in the next few months, so am looking at screw-in versions that I can fit while I have access. I wonder if Morris Minor versions (very common and very cheap even new, about £10) allow the doors to move forward properly? Photo shows Minor screw-in top and Herald-type push-fit below, very similar. Might be worth a try?

Or: buy the proper versions but they cost:

Thanks for your posts, I'm not that fussed about originality and don't want to pay silly prices for a door switch that is rarely used. I would also rather not use the self tap screw fixings. Once I've finished my chores allocated by SWMBO I'm going to the car and prise the switch out.

You're lucky then, just when I get to the last one she finds another one or two . . .

She's going to love me today.... been cutting logs but too awkward with one person, even with a cradle. Someone needs to hold them steady before I lose fingers. I hope she has nothing planned for this evening... :)

oh dear yes the wire connection piece crimps onto that plastic piece as it has to be insulated from the centre operating rod. Its probably still on the end of the wire which has fallen down inside the A post - should be able to find it from inside the footwell....
