AlanT
Hi All, yet another weirdness. As the disc spins it’s slightly catching the pads at one point and causes the retaining pins to click (you can see them move in the video). The disc appears very slightly out of true and, I suspect, is bad (albeit new!). Thoughts? thanks 69123370920__E880960A-B110-413E-ADD6-08AA73257481.MOV
JohnD
If pins click they are loose In their holes. They are split pin type, spread them till they fit tightly in the holes. John
AlanT
Hi @JohnD They are solid with a retaining pin.
dougbgt6
John is correct, they should be split pins. On the GT6 there are two brake pad part numbers, one is metric one is imperial, the difference? The diameter of the split pin hole! Doug
AlanT
Ah! These are type 14 on a Spit. Will peruse Rimmers! thanks

There are different part numbers for the pins, 521121 for later and 509058 for earlier and I presume the difference is the diameter.
AlanT
They look correct for a 1500 according to pic from Rimmers.
AlanT
Rimmers’ website doesn’t suggest there are two sizes on offer for type 14. My instinct is to change the disc as it’s slightly out of true
Pete Lewis
do your anti squeal shims have the small edge loading spling leaf ???? cant find a good pic but its sort of showing on JP parts most disc runout is due to the hub faces not being clean/true Pete
AlanT
All in place @Pete Lewis I had a wheel bearing fail shortly after resto and suspect this may have damaged the disc. They are cheap so will replace and see what happens. It’s an annoyance rather than dangerous.

My instinct is to change the disc as it’s slightly out of true The manual does allow for some disc run out (its never going to be perfect) so to be sure you need a dial indicator. Dont forget it could be the hub that the disc bolts to so even a perfect disc wont run true. Also theres always going to be play between pins, caliper and pads as these components are not machine fits so if the run out is within spec I would get driving😊
GFL
i had a similar annoying problem on my Vitesse fitted with type 16P Calipers. I purchased a set of Anti-rattle clips, they were spring steel and tensioned the pins slight to stop them rattling, presumably you should be able to get a set for the type 14's too. Pete Lewis
these are the W type clips that locate under the pins ?? similar effect is bend the side load springs on the shims to add more end load might help Pete
AlanT
Sorted. Changed the disc. It was just enough out of true to grab the pad. thanks all.
