Spare Triumph 1300 engine crankshaft end-float

I replaced mine recently as it was severely corroded although I bought the stainless replacement some years ago.  The whole pipe twisted and broke off when I tried to undo the olive.  As Colin commented, it needed tweaking to get the bracket to fit over the stud.  So far working well with a new nut and olive and no leaks.  On examination of the remains of the original pipe, the T piece to bypass the heater was completely blocked with what may have been Radweld used by a previous owner.

I'm assuming the smaller one round the pipe is the one that spins

Turns and jams. I have tightened it back up, I hope.

However it may pay me to invest in a replacement and install it with some copper grease if the old one now proves to leak. I think I will be able to separate it from the adaptor in the back of the water pump, so long as I'm prepared to break it in the process.....

C'est la vie....

Best wishes,

Mike.

Ahhhhh, Radweld......

The death of many an engine, so I'm led to believe...........

Best wishes,

Mike.

Ugh! That doesn't look healthy.

Reminds me of the old anti-smoking adverts, blocked arteries......

The really nasty revelation is towards the end of the ad.

Best wishes,

Mike.

Hi everyone sorry to jump in here but I have a 13/60 herald engine was supposedly out of a good runner but chassis was rotten stupidly I never checked the end float until now after spending a week cleaning and painting ready to go in the car. It has about 3mm of end float.?is it too far gone or is it still worth fitting new bearings

Hmmm 3mm is a lot and no normal oversize bearings will take that up so theres a possibility the existing have either fallen out of place or worn severely. In either case the risk is that the crank and/or case have been damaged so need to be closely inspected...
