Paulfc
Is it possible to still buy imperial sized male/female/piggyback etc. connectors? Don’t want to start chopping and re-ending things unless I have to. Thanks, Paul
Colin Lindsay
Never had any bother using the 4.8mm or 6.3mm versions which are currently on the go. I've managed to source all sorts of early and strange Lucas connectors before now on eBay, too, so Imperial versions may still come up.
Paulfc
Thanks Colin. I’ll dig around for a little longer before reaching for the cutters.

ahebron
6.3mm is near as damn it to 1/4 inch and 4.8mm is 3/16 inch
johny
Yes and they seem a funny choice of metric size otherwise...
Paulfc
Thanks all. My original loom definitely has some spade connectors that are slightly larger or smaller than modern equivalents. No matter though, as I’ve opted to “chop and change” where necessary. Pete Lewis
you will find they have always been 1/4"5/16" 1/2" and just got metrified Pete
Morgana
Yes, they're all the same. Sometimes you see 1/4" audio plugs called 6.3mm as well. As Pete Lewis says, they're just metricated Imperial measurements. I get bags mostly from Auto Electric Supplies as they have good quality parts, a navigable website and a good paper catalogue. I use uninsulated Lucar connectors with a proper ratchet crimper when I'm not using bullets (Imperial, not Japanese which really are metric), covered with insulated boots. Stuffing weather-prone insulating sleeves with grease helps mitigate corrosion. I used to use silicone grease until I read enough about its problems to start using lanolin grease instead. Nicer on the hands, and doesn't affect the paint touch up...
Pete Lewis
on production in the 70s 80s where terminal corrosion was a real problem we did many tests and in the end brushed/sprayed Tectyl a nice sticky brown mess into all connections it worked Pete
