pirate
Should this hinge bolt come out? Looks like it's going to need heat and a lot of persuading if it does !
Colin Lindsay
In a word, yes! It's just rusted solid, many end up like that so persevere with plenty of penetrating oil and it'll work out.
Pete Lewis
yes its just rusted in place, then comes the old nutshell, which way up for the slotted plate , partlist shows slot at top clamped by the bolt and the bonnet pivot as the single hole( the sensible design, WSM shows them upside down with the bonnet pivot on the slotted hole which if left loose to pivot means the height cant be maintained as the weight will drop to base of slot ,if done up tight you cant pivot the bonnet . pete
pirate
So is it better to leave it where it is and restore and paint around it ?

You shouldn't need to leave it loose to pivot. There is a crush tube in there to do that. Of course, nearly all of them are rusted solid into the bonnet frame... You need to get that out too as if you leave the bolt loose the adjustment system doesn't hold position properly. Penetrating oil, heat, time and patience...... not necessarily in that order. Bordfunker
Or grind it off, and then punch it out of the brackets which is what I had to do with one of mine. Other one was absolutely fine! Karl
