Stromberg Carb refurbisher recommendation

I have a tatty spare set of Stromberg 150 CDSE's and am looking for a recommendation for a specialist to both functionally and cosmetically refurb them.  I believe there is a company in Leighton Buzzard - has anyone on here used them, please ?

Thanks for the offer, Pete, two sugars please.

What does the check involve?  To me, the spindles seem nice and tight and everything appears to be there.  As these are a spare set I could probably bring these tatty carbs to the Raven one club night ?

yes ive used the for years  the carburettor exchange   http://www.carbex.demon.co.uk/

would you like me to run a check on them first ????  free tea etc.

Pete

Took Pete's advice and dropped my spare pair of 150CDSE carburettors off with Dave at the Carburettor Exchange in Leighton Buzzard.  Dave quoted £248 for the refurbish but warned that they might take up to 12 weeks to complete because of his workload.

I used Gower & Lee a few years ago to fully refurb my knackered Vitesse Stroms - did an absolute brilliant job; I would recommend them any time. A friend of mine used them last year and same verdict.

Prior to G&L, I went via Andrew Turner to get a set of refurbished carbs for the Vitesse - absolute nightmare and disaster; ended up losing money. Long story but point made, really.

Regards.

Richard.

did you have a look a some of the ones on the shelf ????

its a bit of a pokey place , but no bull . a genuine guy

Pete

He was closing at noon and off on holiday to France and I arrived with only 20 minutes to spare after making several scenic tours of L-B trying to find his well hidden gaff.  There were mountains of carbs in view but being short of time and with other customers waiting we only had time to discuss what I wanted done to my pair.  I agree he was a helpful and pleasant guy, thanks for the recommendation.

Finally collected my CD150SE Strombergs from the Carburettor Exchange on Friday, they now look quite tidy:

now thats a question for you

if the current are doing what they should , keep these for a rainy day

after all the base guts are all pretty similar , just wear and tear that makes the variables

why not give them a whirl when youre not commited to anything and see how they go

Thats about all there is on a base CD

Very little to go wrong  apart from the jet body 0 rings

All carbs can suffer spindle and body bore   wear

CD choke is just mechanical

CDS has  starting valve which can suffer disc corrosion

CDSE has top adjuster 0 ring  oil  leaks   should  have unset temperature compensators

CDSEV  has other emmission add ons and throttle back devices

QuickNick's looked better than mine before refurbishing! 😂 Mind you, I don't really hold with cleaning stuff under the bonnet - particularly when it's working fine!

Gully, I bought the spare carbs some time ago cheaply on ebay.  They were not originally from a GT6 Mk3 but they were the same basic version as mine so I had them refurbed and rebuilt with the correct needle/jet/spring spec for my engine.  I have another pair of new old stock GT6 Mk3 carbs but they are to Swedish/US spec with slight variations to the UK spec.
