pirate
Don't know if anyone else has tried it, I spray painted my exhaust manifold with very high temperature graphite grey think it came out well, time will tell if it lasts. rotary wire brush, clean with spirit, I did 6 coats, let it dry for about an hour then make sure the wife is out and bake it in the oven at 160C for a further hour. cook garlic bread to kill the smell she never suspected anything! Colin Lindsay
BBQ or stove enamel does the same job in a nice satin black, you can always have a BBQ at the same time to cover the smell from the oven....
daverclasper
Just wondering. Not as much fun as doing a manifold roast in the oven, but would the paint not bake anyway, after a few miles of running.
Colin Lindsay
That's what a number of the manufacturers claim - paint, let it dry, then cure by running the engine.
NeilF
Pirate, I did that 4 years ago to my GT6 manifold and it still looks OK. NeilF
JohnD
I've tried the "VHT" paints - they don't last a season. Then you read the very small print - must be used on bare metal. All old rust etc must be removed. As if. J.
Badwolf
Would it work if the metal was rubbed back and treated with something like Bilthamber hydrate 80 before painting or would the B/h 80 converted metal/rust just burn off.
