Phil C
Evening All Trial fitting of panels and trim continues ahead of prep and paint. Today I was trying to fit the front overriders and think the mountings may have been butchered in a previous life. This seems to be confirmed by Fig 9 in the WSM. Not sure why somebody would carry out such an alteration. The car did not come with overriders so I have been blissfully unaware of this issue throughout the restoration so far. Am I correct or am I missing something? Thanks again. . Extract from WSM above, my car below.
NonMember
Yes, that's been butchered, probably by a PO who thought overriders were a bit passe.
Pete Lewis
understanding previous owners bright ideas is a dark art , we all fail at getting the reason but are stuck with the results Pete
68vitesse
I seem to remember that the overrider brackets are the same for Herald and Vitesse, fitted long bit down on Vitesse and 13/60 long bit up for 1200. Might help finding dimensions, have the front of a chassis in one of my sheds if you need some dimensions or photographs. Regards Paul
Colin Lindsay
Chic Doig remanufactures the brackets. I've used them before, and as Paul says they point up for 1200 and down for 13/60 or Vitesse, but these brackets aren't identical so can't be used for both. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-HERALD-948-1200-12-50-FRONT-CHASSIS-BAR-OVERRIDDER-BRACKET-CHIC-DOIG/352340974616?hash=item5209289c18:g:Fu8AAOSwQ~ha5GVy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-VITESSE-HERALD-13-60-FRONT-CHASSIS-BAR-OVERRIDDER-BRACKET-CHIC-DOIG/352188602778?hash=item520013999a:g:nhIAAOSwiBJZ52nR
Phil C
Thanks Guys for the offer of dimensions/source of new brackets. Fortunately I have access to a 13/60 donor chassis and will introducing it to my trusty angle grinder shortly 🤠
