Radio for 1977 Spitfire

It would have been a simple MW / LW radio with push-button tuners; I'm guessing here but I know that early Spitfires had a radio marked 'Triumph' however by the later BL years they may have gone for a BL-marked unit made by Clarion or Motorola? I'm not sure when AM / FM was formally adopted but both were available with the BL logo in the late 70s. I don't think anything as high-falutin as cassette was widely available other than possibly special-order or owner-fitment.

Got into the modern yesterday, started up and was serenaded by Annie Lenox. What's wrong with that you might say. Not much except that the car radio thingie wasn't switched on and there is no A/L tracks on it in any case. The unit had linked with my phone, searched through the records in the files, chosen the record and started playing it. Cue twilight zone music...via Bluetooth of course.

Would anyone know what make/model would have been fitted to a 1977 Spitfire 1500. I’m sure they wouldn’t have been standard but maybe there was standard spec for a fitted option? Any help gratefully received. Thanks, James.

Hi James,

in my quest for a decent late 60's early 70's Radiomobile radio for my TR4A I purchased a much more modern Motorola off ebay. The seller gumph suggested it was Morris Marina vintage.  It works as it should. You can have it for the cost of the postage.

I think it is model 184
