    Fuel Filters

Hi Dave - no issues with the plastic ones - I have 1 prior to the fuel pump and its fine though did read that they are not ethanol proof and the filters dissolve though that hasnt been my experience - Paul
  2. Ive noticed the fuel filters on my Vitesse are starting to corrode and the chrome peeling off - manufacture looks like an alloy and poor quality - Are there better ones to use ? Paul
  3. I saw this NOS door skin on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Herald-Vitesse-LH-outer-door-panel-MELBROS-original-Stanpart-No-901338/143002706710?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055359.m1431.l2649 The name mentioned is Melbros. Is this a reputable name or to be avoided . I guess they will sell for a lot more than the current bid of £27, and close to £100 Paul
  4. Try attaching a section of an inner tube to the petrol filler and blow - if you have air leaks you will soon see them . In my case the clip holding the pipe section from the tank was loose and on blowing fuel was evident Paul
  5. Did some more checking and found the EBay Seller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R9-Fuel-INJECTION-Rubber-Hose-Pipe-SAE-High-Pressure-Line-3-16-1-4-5-16-3-8-8mm-/161108103645?var=&hash=item2582ca91dd Paul
  6. Correct Pete, luckily still kept the original tubing Paul
  7. The seller doesn’t list R9 anymore. The key is not buy any Fuel line marked with SAE J30 R9 . The genuine fuel line TSSC sells has no markings at all Paul
  8. I think Ive found the source of the contamination - see pic - I used a cotton bud to wipe the interior of a short connecting section by the carbs . The R9 is going soft and is most likely to be fake - Purchased from Fleabay and lesson learnt - I feel a trip to TSSC Open Day on December 2nd to buy some of the good stuff Paul
  9. I would like to fit hazard warning lights to my Vitesse . Any suggestions Paul
  10. Hi Pete thanks for the tip. I’ve cleaned the valves and float chambers but will now pump a few squirts to clear the pipe . Paul
  11. Hi Pete nothing behind the float valves so the slivers got through the float valve !!!! No wonder the car performance was similar to a bucking bronco whilest the slivers were forced through . I did check the offending items in the float bowl and one at least was a sliver of R9 Paul
  12. Apologies , it was the trunnion base that needs sealing , and easy to do if it’s new . Mine failed after 9 months after finding oil on the floor under the trunnions . I believe NOS ones are solid so don’t need sealing Paul
  13. UPDATE just started stripping down the forward CDSE carb - diaphragm is fine though found these 2 pieces of crud in the float bowl. They look too large to have got through the needle valve. The float bowl was full but not leaking suggesting the needle valve is not sticking Could this be the cause of the Kangeroo bucking ? Next I need to check the needle valves Paul
  14. Hi Dave - Vertical Links bases need to be sealed - I did mine with solder . Paul
  15. Bought mine from Canleys , good prices . Also bought vertical links from them but if you buy its best to solder the base or fill in with epoxy as there is a tendency for the oil to leak - Unless you buy NOS pretty sure all VL's could suffer from leakage Paul
  16. Happy Birthday for yesterday Pete and thanks for your invaluable advice over the last 2 years Paul
  17. My local garage allows me to watch the MOT and invites me to inspect the underside - On one test he failed my Vitesse because the headlight beam was too high then we both adjusted a headlight each and then passed for MOT . I value a second opinion and wouldnt consider by passing the MOT test Paul
  18. Thanks Ben . Bulb was the issue now replaced Paul
  19. The oil pressure warning light has stopped working on my Vitesse . Initially was going to check the pressure switch . Can this be tested on the bench if so how? Paul
  20. The modern replacement has the button but it doesnt depress . check out the photo of my spare Paul
  21. Hi I have JBW “minilites” and changed the studs to Freelander. Check out my link on how to upgrade Paul
  22. No misfire issues, starts on 1st or 2nd tug even after a couple of weeks . The rest of the day starts on first tug. Will check on tank outlet and diaphragms Paul
  23. Hi went to Sheringham for a day trip in the Vitesse . Outward trip was fine , return was fine until 40 miles in, then suddenly jerking kicking out of overdrive. Pulled over and couldn’t find anything obvious . Carrying on kangaroo actions in second , cured by foot to the floor , Happened in 3rd but not so vicious and in 4th but less again like a seesaw effect . To get home left overdrive alone and kept the revs high 3k plus and got home safely . I tested overdrive on the last mile and all ok. Total miles today 140 miles . We recently went to Ireland 1400 miles with no engine issues . My diagnosis is that it’s fuel related , all pipes are new, R9 where required , inline filters , hopefully will find a gremlin in the needle valve . The Irish trip was traditional points , last 300 miles converted to Accuspark electronic . Dizzy is Lucas , fuel pump has new diaphragm though will check Am I on the right track or missing something Paul
