  1. Buy a late Spitfire version; it forks to both engine block, bodywork and battery.
  2. I gave up on FJ a few years back after finding a local company who insured for agreed value for almost a third of the FJ price. I compared both policies - the expired FJ one and the new one - and found very little difference in what they offered, including extras.
  3. Front of the box should remove easily; I did this on my MK1 many years ago. The empty box is handy for spare keys or bulbs.
  4. Been like that for ages, I have to have business use to go to or from my work - and I don’t even run the place. It’s been like that for more than a few years now.
  5. It’s happened to me once in a Herald, trying to get home after a show without having to stop at a petrol station; as usual the station was closer to the show than home so one mile from home the Herald conked out. Thankfully all I had to do was turn the reserve tap and drive the remaining. Without it I’d have been stuck. So: pointless until we need it, but we’re all human and yes I was lazy… but it still saved me a long walk. I’ll try not to use it too often but it’s nice to know it’s there for emergencies.
  6. Sorry for the late reply, Aidan - can you post a pic of yours?
  7. Yes, everything available and you can upgrade connectors to take more modern components e.g. bulbs. I’ve replaced single wires that were burnt out so an entire loom should be the same principle.
  8. I converted my 1200 using the Stromberg from a 13/60 and a Speedograph manifold adaptor. The only adaptation required was an elongated bracket for the choke cable and lever. It ran very well up on the standard 6J needle and chrome pancake filter until the car was dismantled for a short / fast restoration. 7 years ago. It’s still in bits.
  9. Originality is always more desirable to some; to others a good paint job is more important (unless it’s a really yucky shade!). Honeysuckle isn’t the worst and it suits that particular car. I’d keep it original, but as always it’s up to your own choice as owner. Whatever floats your boat!
  10. Have you considered a Stromberg with manifold adaptor? A little bit of adaptation to fit the choke cable but simple enough and a good carb.
  11. He’s changed the listing from Triumph Herald brake calipers to Ford Granada / Sierra calipers. Makes more sense now… but I was wondering if someone had manufactured uprated brakes for the Herald and not told the rest of us…
  12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Herald-Callipers-/111727251616?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 Either the seller has it wrong, or there are entire new possibilities for Herald brakes on the market. Has someone found single piston versions that fit?
  13. As Pete says any petrol-resistant pipe of the correct diameter will do; mine are original but very brittle so I’ll have to get some myself. I have some old ones that are off an Estate so if yours are still fitted and you need measurements let me know.
  14. Well you could, but that would remove the reserve capability. It may not seem like much of a reserve but it may just get you to a nearby petrol station, or home, someday you really need it.
  15. I agree with Pete; unless you have gasket problems it’s probably an incorrect rad cap. Does the system refill when cold, or does the level drop then stay at the same?
  16. Magnolia Hammerite is a very close match for the shade if by any chance you can’t get the correct road wheel colour.
  17. The standard of welding in the front passenger footwell doesn’t bode well for the rest of the work. I fear the decimal point in the price may be in the wrong place….
  18. Go to eBay for all the Herald-specific equipment that’s on offer, such as cup holders, mobile phone aerials, air-con pumps, spot lamps, electric screen-washers etc that were all fitted as standard when the cars were new. It’s only when you read the small print that you realise that an ‘Air-con pump - fits Triumph Herald’ is actually “not suitable for Triumph Herald”. I never realised there were so many Herald accessories that I could buy that aren’t actually suitable for the Herald, until I started digging...
  19. I’ll watch this one to see what it eventually raises. I have a cheaper, round locking version and even the price of these has seriously gone up; having said that, it’s still possible to find a real bargain sometimes. I think I’ve also one of the Waso versions in bits waiting some spare part or other... must go look now that I’ve remembered!
  20. A nice item. Prices do tend to vary, though.
  21. I know that late Spitfire turrets are slightly lower than earlier Herald ones, despite looking similar, but thought that was for bonnet clearance. I never knew they’d raised any of their engines; it’s always great to learn small details like this. Given the basic standard of engineering - advanced enough for its’ day, but not radical - I don’t think it was for any weight distribution or handling purpose.
  22. "This is tomorrow… Heaven help us!" I agree… not a Triumph in sight! I take it she doesn’t mind having a blue interior including exposed paintwork, but a pink outer? Wheeler Dealers would have done it properly…
  23. I hope you can make this out - my dash has been removed for rewiring (remember the article on the LED bulbs? Never got it all back together yet.. ) but the centre section slots under the long dash support bracket and two screws go up through the two holes in the L-shaped metal strip and into captive nuts behind the support bracket. Once these are loosely tightened the top two screws can be fitted then the entire section aligned and tightened. I’m just holding mine in place with fingertip pressure.
  24. Happened to me in the queue for the MOT. Got out to talk to another driver, got back in, then noticed little springs and bits all over the floor. I had a spare switch at home so had to go back for a retest an hour later at a cost of £18 extra.
