  1. Both the ones I posted pic`s of earlier have screwed fittings , If one wished to go that option it should be relatively easy to fit a suitable hose tail to a Tapped top casing?. Being "old school" I would be thinking 1/8 or 1/4"BSP as I have the taps and dies to hand. Regarding my issue of Run and Die?. I await supply of new Filters. before a further investigation there being an outside chance the existing one has become brittle and cracked. Pete
  2. I possess one as in Doug`s No-1 Pic;, The problem being I am in Yorkshire, my Ball joint splitter Is???. I suspect in someone`s storage locker on the Avon and Kennett!!. The "give it a two handed whack", works OK 9 time out of 10, especially with the assitance of a split fox wedge. Pete
  3. One would not expect any great amount of lateral movement?. Which would suggest wear, of the holes or the bolts?, or wrongly sized fasteners. My recollection ( I have MX5 seats in my 13/60 now) is that the material is not exactly substantial? and age/wear is to be expected. I suppose if the holes are worn with some ovality opening up and fitting a larger bolt would help?. I found the O/E seats not to be partiularly comfortable, perhaps a personal thing? So replacement was one of my first Job`s. Back in the 80`s I fitted a set of Dolomite seats to the Vitesse for largely the same reasons. Pete
  4. Have they been Oiled? OR Greased? The Handbook/Manual state using EP90 Oil. The use of grease, whilst in itself a lubricant, will also be more likely to collect debris, leading to stiffness and extra stress on the component. The trunion arrangement, whilst simple is not the most robust of devices in my view. Pete`s observation ref; corrosion/wear leading to failure is the more likely scenario. I would also definitely consider replacing both sides now. I doubt if you will obtain O/E replacements but I would tend to lean toward the better known suppliers rather than Flea Bay. My usual first stop go to are Canley? but I rather suspect that most suppliers are sourced from the same manufacturer in this day and age?. Pete
  5. The only thing I`ve done since yesterday, apart from lowering the car back down off the stands after I had topped up the diff; Is go round with a socket and check/tighten the hose clips, after having disconnected the fuel line to the carb; inlet to test the pump was supplying fuel?. It will fast idle for up to a minute or longer then dies?. I`ll try bleeding it though again in the morning. And see how that goes with the battery now on charge overnight. Pete
  6. I am racking my brains trying to think what if anything has changed from yesterday. Even went down the garage for another gallon of "go go juice", still start`s runs and then cut`s out. The P-O (Jeff) has fitted an inline filter, which looks clean/ok, do wonder if it has picked up some crap and is part of the issue? Similar to:- Might order one of these instead? Pete
  7. 1 is definitely 13/60, the other was said to be a 1300 Spit, engine and O/D gearbox. retero fitted some years ago. Currently playing silly beggers, starts and runs then cuts out, pump is providing fuel, pumped about 1/2 litre into a can before lunch, decent spark too. Ran fine yesterday, hence my asking how much fuel is below the pickup?. As the tank has been out recently and only just on a gallon went back it. Might get another gallon just to check?. Pete
  8. Strange? the two I have are both screwed connetions? Pete P.S. Anyone know how much petrol is under the Tank suction (13/60). Plum started and ran yesterday, to-day it will start, runs and cuts out? P
  9. Double check the Frame to head rail attachement, they have a tendency to fracture. Pete
  10. I am slighly mystified? surely the connection is a 1/4bsp screwed fitting?. Most stuff of that era still was?. NPT just occasionally?. Pete

    Suppliers

Talking about parts/suppliers. Anyone have a source of DECENT Quality Worm drive clips? I`ve had even Jubillee branded ones fail, mostly the small 00/0 size used on fuel hose. Pete
  12. Make sure you pick either a nice "hot" day or you have a decent heater to hand. I fitted a PVC hood to Plum last Backend, Don, I think, via Club Shop. The wrinkles are visible, not execesivly, but now it`s all stuck down, Spray contact adhesive, It`s going to be a real contest to correct. My hope is that it will spend most of it`s time Stowed!. 🤞 Your "anchient artifact" looks suspiciously like the anti vibration mountings that existed on our equally "anchient" and second hand, Twin tub washing machine, circa 1965, which was "done to death" washing terry nappies for twin babies. That was some learning curve too!!. Pete.
  13. It is, Since 1997. Beat my own expectations as regards longevity.🤞 Thoroughly enjoyed it so far even learned some futher diverse skill`s. Driven all thorough Europe, and 21.000 miles and 27 states of the USA In a Winnebago. What`s not to like?. Pete
  14. 1982 Method, Deflate tyre, Ease cut lengths of stiff paper/thin card (cereal boxes) under the rim. re-inflate tyre to hold paper in place. Prepare wheel and spray. Job done. Does however need the use of air comprssor? or its a right PITA with a foot pump. Pete
  15. I can empathise, I had years of "sleepless" nights, attempting to convince line manager(s) that pressure vessels cannot be properly examined and certified as safe, and not explosive devices, If you don`t have the TIME to do proper surveys. Workloads that demnded up to 16 hr day`s, by the time the reports where satisfactorily written. Hence by "early retirement" when the offer came gratefully received. I had far less hassle, and greater financial reward as a Chief Engineer on a Break/Bulk Cargo Vessel and North Sea Ferries. Traded in to be home at night, and not away for weeks/months on end. Often wondered if I did the right thing?. Pete
  16. The reason for "intercoolers" as I recall, is to reduce the Air Temperature and increase it`s (specific) density, allowing the air charge mass reaching the combustion chamber to be capable of supporting the "burn" of a greater volume of fuel and increasing the power?. I know, that early Turbo chargers fitted to large marine engines did not have them, and a few where actually retro fitted by the Maker. We always struggled anyway, especially in the Tropics with Engine room and by implication intake air temperatures affecting performance, ocasionally to the point where we had to reduce Rev`s to stay within safe exhaust temp; parameters. The other noticable thing was the Norton, always seemed to perform better on cold damp mornings going to work, so long as the B*gger would start!!. A couple of the "lads" early 60`s fitted flexible Exhaust type Tubing pointing forward, to the carburators, in the belief it helped "ram" air at speed. The probable unquantifiable benfit may have been Cooler Air, rather than the vast majority of motorcycle carburators in the "warmer" air behind the cooling fins?. Shaped Piston heads, where I think, one effort made by manufacturers to induce swirl in the combustion chamber?. I know the opposed piston design was far more efficient than the single piston, when it came to efficient consumption said to produce more power from a single charge of fuel air largely due to the more effective swirl and mix. Pete
  17. My "guy" already does this for the Sprinter. His equipment is plugged into the OBD port. But not on the P-107?. Pete
  18. If it is anything like the old (lucas?) ones, its just like a "rubber bulb/bellows" inside the casing with a inlet and outlet non return ball valve`s, absolutely simple device?. I assume with time the Bulb/bellows might perish?. And of course the n-r valves do fail?. Pete.
  19. Apparently, there is a whole "back street" enterprize, which will remove the internals and re-fit the then empty cat. allegedly to "improve" performance. They make their money from the sale of the precious metals. How it ever gets past (an Honest) MOT tester is a matter for some debate?. I note the latest tesing machines, actually upload the results onto the DVLA database in real time, Or so my Tester says?. My old Peugot 107 is marginal, and keeps bringing up the error on the dash, which for the moment I can delete. There is some thought it could be the O`2 sensor?. £25 as oposed to a mninimum of £150 (ish) for a "pattern" Cat, or "big bucks", probably more than the car is worth, for an O/E one. Pete
  20. Hotmail address are managed by the Microsoft systems. I`m guessing, but it is likley that the TSCC address has been flagged by M-S as Spam? You could try going to settings in Hotmail and ensuring that the TSSC address is not so flagged?. I recently had issues, with Hotmail, in that I lost access to my old provider and the backup e-mail was not available for resetting my details. I was blocked for a full month. Pete
  21. Google brings up a right plethora of 12v screen wash pumps, almost spoiled for choice. Pete
  22. Never deliberately used it on rust. But citric acid is my go to for descaling, more so as we are in a hard water area. The main advantage being that it does not attack stainless steels which many modern boilers and heat exchangers tend to be constructed of. I’ve also used it to clean copper quite successfully too. I buy mine as crystals in 2kg bags off ‘tinternet. I was considering using it to flush the cooling system cannot see that being an issue as it’s basically another heat exchanger. Phosphoric acid was used to descale the desalination plants on ships back in the 60’s. The degraded contents where flushed to Davy jones locker. Pete
  23. 🤣 See the old "two worm drive clip" balance system is still the go to?. Proves the old addage "If it ain`t broke why fix it?". Pete
  24. Safety Glasses. I "got lucky" in respect that when they did my cataract`s a few years back they put in implants, (bless the NHS👍) so now I have near perfect vision, so much so that I pass the Driving Standards now without resort to Spectacles.👍 Still need them for very close work though. TBH, I do like John suggested and have a clear visor, but 90% of the time I get by with standard goggles. "Propper" safety Glasses should have side protection BTW, without, they do not come up to industrial standards. My old, company issued, overalls had pockets in the knees to take pads, very handy when crawling around Boilers and Tankage and under car`s. Very Orange with reflective stripes. All I needed was I Red and Green Table tennis bats and I was good to land Helicopters.🤣 Pete
  25. Just (another) thought?. Are these loose or caged rollers? Is the correct number of needle rollers present? IF one of the needles had slippped out during assembly, the remainder would be able to run "skewed" to the parallelity of the shaft? In those circumstances the wear on them would/could be as you see?. "rubbing" rather than rolling would also scour the shaft. EDIT:- Metal spraying used to be a solution, but it`s a long while ago, I don`t even know if anyone does it now?. Pete.
