Very little in my experience. Diaphragm punctures (some last longer than others), eventually spindle wear, needle sticking because jet needs centering, jet o-rings leaking when disturbed because theyve age hardened and thats about it...
Not sure but wouldnt have thought 1yr/3000miles is unreasonable. Of course they might want you to come back for the head to be retorqued by them at extra cost after a few hundred miles use...
I think the letter L or H is cast just inside the trumpet of the horn to denote whether its high or low.
The workshop manual describes the adjustment of the horn but says if it has failed repair is by replacement but this is not the case. Mine failed recently and I took them apart by drilling out the rivets, cleaned out the accumulated gunk of 50 years and reassembled with small nuts and bolts. Work fine and Ive kept an original component thats probably better quality than the after market items available....
Interesting, recently Ive been looking at the Canley info on the last US Spitfires (electric fan for radiator cooling etc) and it looks like at the end they used a single heavily emissions restricted Stromberg CD150 on this manifold:
yes need to find out your exact set up as no point repairing or buying the wrong speedo. Might get a bit complicated as the drive gear in the gearbox could also affect the speedo required. Youre best solution might be to get the back wheels off the ground so that an assistant can turn them while you count the cable drive turns?
Think youre right although not sure it was done on a 1500. Also I reckon the idea is to use one of the HS4 so will that be easy on a Stromberg manifold?
Ah that explains why this one isnt set up for mounting a stabiliser:

Foshis seems a bit of a mystery unless its had an extra hole drilled and tapped...
Youre right although the Dolomite front casing is no use as it doesnt have the holes to bolt the front cross support plate required for the small chassis models. So you would have the crownwheel + carrier and pinnion but it sounds like still need a complete 3.27 casing☹️
Even secondhand unknown condition 3.63 diffs are getting to that money and 3.27 are much rarer (a lot more 1500 Spitfires produced than non OD GT6) so going to be difficult. Obviously when spending that kind of money you have the right to ask to see the internals either by photos or in person and thats the important part not the exterior...
Wait cancel the order for the vernier callipers because I dont think they can measure with sufficient precision! It needs a good quality micrometer (of sufficient size) to check whether the journals are within the five TEN thousanths inch (0.0005") out of round limit.
If you do want it done you normally go to a specialist shop as its not worth getting your own instrument...
