  2. Just seen what looks to be the same model of PCV for sale on ebay from Turner.carbs and it says: these were used on the Triumph Spitfire MK 3 and TR250, they are pressed in and become part of the inlet manifold.

  5. Unfortunately with your semi open cooling system, unlike moderns, the radiator has to be mounted as high as possible to ensure the heater is full...
  6. Cor at any level it would stink in the boot/car without a good bung! My Vitesse boot used to smell just because the gland on the outlet pipe wasnt tightened fully....
  7. I know they were notorious for a saving a bob or two but surely the PCV could bounce around like that! Maybe the bonnet kept in it place🤣

  10. Certainly Rimmers dont show any seal for that type of PCV so it must just be a push fit in the manifold connection - pretty poor! However think the risk of rubber ingress is only the same as on my Vitesse which has a rubber hose between the manifold and PCV...
  11. Yes looks like they do new Spitfire laygears for 278€ incl VAT but not 6 cylinder versions. Then theres transport and for the UK probably import duty to pay on top.... However there was this very disappointing case recently:
  12. yes that is different from standard and you could check the engine serial number to see if the complete unit has been changed. The PCV looks as if it should have an o-ring fitted to its stub pipe which then will be a tight fit and seal in the manifold connection. The other connection will have been for a servo in the 2000 but which the Vitesse never had fitted as standard...
  13. The Canley site shows the UK model as having a vented fuel cap seal while US models dont so presumably they had a carbon canister system attached to that blanked vent pipe...
  14. You wont feel any roughness in the crank bearings (it would have failed by now if there were) but you could feel for axial play although its highly unlikely.... Plenty of people on here to give further advice if needed👍
  15. Have you got a manual? If not the Triumph workshop manual is available to download for free from the excellent Vitessesteve.co.uk site. I personally would inspect the crank bearings as well but I understand theres always risks when dismantling things and you may feel its not worth disturbing them. Either way cleanliness is essential👍
  16. I do recommend checking the pump while youve got access Karl. Its easily done and pumps be worn especially on axial clearance which fortunately can be rectified by removing a fraction off the length of the pump body...
  17. yes it wasnt so much polishing I was thinking of ensuring the resistance to flow through each branch of the inlet manifold is the same. I saw a programme where they had a manifold on a flow rig and ground its internal dividers to achieve this but of course I suppose this is only really a problem at the high flow rates youd get in a tuned engine....
  18. Ha! Unless, by chance, its quite a good fit the engine must run pretty badly although I guess the carb mixtures have been richened to compensate...
  19. Personally I wouldnt worry about a gauze as long as the pump is within tolerances. Presumably this engine is now going to have regular oil and filter changes plus not do a lot of miles so the chances of large items entering the sump and being sucked into the oil pump are very low...
  20. Excellent and that does look like good pressure - what revs and temperature did you measure it at?
  21. yes Ive never used mine much but in this case it would have been interesting to see if there is a noticeable difference between 1 and 2. I know that for tuning smoothing is done inside inlet manifolds, especially at the divides, to balance the airflow to each cylinder so maybe your manifold has a particularly poor casting.... Great fuel consumption though!

  25. Hmmm Hylomar might be more effective at sealing some leaks Ive got!
