well its just a diaphragm so if punctured wont operate the rod but then air will be sucked in to the pipe. I suppose the rod could have become detached from the diaphragm which would then give good vaccum but no operation - can you hear the resistance of the diaphragm being operated when you twist the backplate? You might even feel the slight pressure that generates at the end of the pipe...

I take it you can rotate the backplate by hand quite easily? The sucking does take a bit of effort as you have to progressively pull vacuum through repeated sucks without letting it escape. If your not pulling air in, the pipe and diaphragm must be good (or blocked?) so difficult to see what else could be wrong...

I would get onto Bastuck and see what they say as it looks like their shaft could have eaten well into the minimum clearance and that would probably explain the seizure. I take it the gear also seized on to the bush but this could have been due to the heat generated by the initial problem.
The manual says the bush can come with an ID of up to 22.5mm so in theory you could find one for the Bastuck shaft that would just achieve a clearance of greater than 0.031mm. Of course then you would also have to check the clearance is ok between the replacement bush and gear...

Sorry to hear that, it must be a right mess☹️ The free to download Triumph workshop manual indicates the max shaft diameter for second gear as 22.194mm and minimum clearance for the bush of 0.031mm. Please let us know what you find...

I see, but surely the kit will only be used to convert dynamo cars so should come with the correct size belt?

If the supplied belt is the right length I think your kit would have fitted ok although I read a thread recently about it being difficult to remove the nº1 sparkplug with an alternator...

Think, as Mike says, the kink in the original bracket is an optical ilusion in the photo...

Have you got the engine side valances fitted? On some models when converting to an alternator I think if the original fanbelt is used the smaller pulley means the alternator comes up against the left hand valance before the belt is tight.
I think what Rimmers have supplied would work but the kit should include the correct belt! The James Paddock offering does appear to come with a belt but no way of knowing if its the right one....

Also, if needed, dont just adjust the travel at the lever as theres a pivot arm underneath the car which must have its positioned maintained for optimum efficiency. You have to do it at the wheels as well to get everything correct...

Couple of things: the lever should only go 3 or 4 clicks and on my Vitesse the rubber gaiter has a cardboard base that as original is held with 4 screws to the floor pan...

I think the pros-cons of the Vitesse are:
Its faster, has more engine torque, great engine sound, better interior, better looking bonnet,
But has poorer handling due to weight distribution, limited engine cooling capacity and the drivetrain is overly stressed...

Unfortunately that can be a rather expensive option and you have to sell the car anyway😵

Great that'll do the job then. Now you just have to decide where to locate it as the Vitesse engine bay doesnt lend itself to having a servo and I dont think they were ever a standard item. Some put them over the master cylinder or alongside the distributor or move the battery to the boot and install it in its place.
However probably the neatest way is to move the battery side ways as much as possible by cutting out its angle brackets so that the servo can fit between it and the air heater box...

Theyre not made for individual models of cars so theres just a few boost ratios to choose from. The maker can recommend which is the most suitable but its up to the purchaser to decide how much brake assistance he wants (leg strength?). Unless you can match up the part numbers of your servo its difficult to know what the original purchaser bought for his MGB but the chances are it will be reasonable for your car as well. In the end you'll have to try it and see how it suits you.
I personally have good brake pads on my Vitesse and find it pretty easy to lock the wheels even without a servo so would want only the smallest amount of assistance...

I hope the boost ratio is only 1.65:1 or at the most 1.9 as more on a light car will probably be too much so you lose controllability and risk locking up wheels (without ABS). Unfortunately you cant tell the boost ratio just by the size of the diaphragm....

It really comes down to the inspection when apart: if you find the bearings worn, winding damaged, corrosion etc then maybe a new dynamo is a good idea although most things can be repaired if required. Also if replacing then perhaps a alternator conversion should be considered...

when you look down inside I fill only the smallest diameter (damper tube) you can see. As said anymore just drains away...

Pity as these gearboxes can go downhill pretty fast once they start and if not caught early it can be expensive☹️

If you post a picture of the bits someone might be able to diagnose whats happened and whether further action is required....
