  1. Yes Ive often wondered if my mk1 Vitesse front grill is more restrictive than the mk2 slat version. Its certainly got smaller holes which must tend to obstruct the entry of air more...
  2. Well its a bit of an unknown but if you do few miles and not on long high speed runs the chances of unleaded damage seems to be pretty low...
  3. I know its probably a big ask of a seller but if I was spending that kind of money I would want to do a compression test and oil pressure check if no gauge is fitted. Both these tests are quick and easy if you take the relevant gear with you...
  4. Probably the head gasket has failed and the minimum cost to change that with no other work would probably be about a couple of hundred pounds max. There might be more work found but its very unlikely that hardened valve seats will be essential. Many of us are still driving around without these...
  5. Yes always a bit suspicious of buying from buyers of long ownership cars as they can be flipping them with a bit of a tart up and price increase. Still looking is learning....
  6. Oh and stonking great fully shrouded fan(s)😁
  7. To be fair though moderns engines are much more efficient and also come with decent size rads....
  8. Ha, yes I saw the programme and thought they should have also tried substituting the shocks for rigid bars to show the opposite effect - now that would shatter teeth!
  9. I thought old shocks would be too soft not too hard🤔
  10. Yes its a trade off between comfort and tyre wall flexing which doesnt help handling (why moderns have ultra low profiles and higher pressures)...
  11. triumph vitesse convertible | eBay Gary how long has this owner had the car? It looks like theres some overspray around the front bumper/radiator mount which doesnt bode well....
  12. Thats only for 10th Dan but now you do get to wear your underpants over your trousers😲
  13. Im not sure the standard water pump flow rate is a problem as the TR6 with 150bhp used the same thing albeit with a bigger radiator. However the TR fan went through various design changes especially for the US market....

    Fuel spill

Certainly no load running is when its most likely to overflow. At the same time watch in the carb mouths to see if theres an excess of fuel coming out of either jet...

    Fuel spill

Do you think the float level issue has been resolved then Mick? If the level is getting too high the mixture will be rich so before anything else you need to be sure its correct. One problem at a time😁
  16. I have got the rad hard up against the front valance and I believe even that is also mounted pretty far forward😁
  17. Yes checked my vitesse and 22 certainly feels enough at the front so maybe the weight distribution isnt as bad as I thought....
  18. Youll be able to sell the secret cam position and timing far and wide though....
  19. Strange as the fan tapers thinner by the water pump so mine was tightest between the crank end and fan motor. Oh but mine is just clamped directly to the rad matrix...
  20. Orrrrr you might have accidently found a set up that boosts power over the standard output😳
  21. Ive got a Spal 305mm fan (the higher powered version) on my mk1 vitesse and Im very pleased with it. I removed the fan AND its boss from the end of the crank and it fits nicely. You might even get away with the thinner lower powered model or perhaps go up to the next size of 325mm. After trying various controls Im now on purely manual with a fused relay and switch supplied from the radio position of the ignition switch so I can run it for 30 seconds after engine stop without the risk of forgetting it👍

    Fuel spill

Ah yes there is a way and its putting packing between the pump and block to move its operating arm further away from the cam. The arm gets moved less so produces less fuel pressure👍 Its trial and error without a pressure gauge and of course if too much you could run out of fuel at high sustained engine loads....
  23. Yes Paul the normal Vitesse rad cap with 7psi rating by my calculations will lift at about 111 degrees C...
  24. Yes probably best to clip gaiter with full lock the other way so it will extend the minimum amount when changing lock...
