  1. yes theres been discussions on here and elsewhere about different length filters that can be used to allow the adaptor to be as vertical as possible. I seem to remember you can get down to one under 60mm long from a Kubota digger which of course has less filtration area but as some of our cars do only a few hundred miles between changes thats not a problem😁
  2. Yes and do one thing at a time including check diff oil level and grease wheel bearing, checking for changes in the noise each time...
  3. Im afraid its much more likely to have been made into a filing cabinet☹️
  4. Not sure this type filters as fine as the paper ones - for whatever thats worth....
  5. with a clear filter you might even see air bubbles coming through from possible leaks either while running or on cold start up after the syphon has been lost from the connection to the tank....
  6. An inline filter is a good idea and will give an indication of how much junk is coming through the fuel system. Otherwise checking the strainer in the top of the mechanical fuel pump can might do the same...
  7. Had mine installed on the vitesse like this for years with no problems. Goes just below the oil pressure relief valve but with enough room to undo it before hitting the chassis rail, maybe at 7.30 or 8 oclock position. The original filter chamber was just so big and must empty on shutdown (otherwise there would be a lot of oil dumped when undoing it) which of course must take longer to refill on a cold start. OK if your engine and pump are tip top but makes for a painful wait if not....
  8. Looks like the oil pressure switch but because its been extended to include a pressure gauge and oil feed (to rockers?) its much larger than normal☹️ I wouldnt disturb it or the adaptor seal - the latter was originally intended to be replaced everytime it was undone but try it as it is and have a listen on a cold start...
  9. yes thats the thing, time moves on but when you remember things like it was yesterday its difficult to accept them as 'classics'😂
  10. Looks like that was pinched by something at some stage. That might be possible if the adaptor is rotated in situ to get the filter in an easier position for changing?
  11. yes looking closely at the above photos there seems to be more wear on the edge of the humped face where the stop bolt has slipped over it to go into reverse👍
  12. A selection of manuals below. There might not be one for your exact model but many components are shared so the info will be in there somewhere👍 Triumph Car Service manuals - Vitessesteve
  13. yes that looks like its a bodge and needs to be corrected. Are the threads in the plate holes stripped because as shown in the free to download workshop manual the countersunk head screws should fix into it from the outside with no nuts needed. Not sure about the plate's recess as cant make it out in the manual but I would think it should be as it is so that the gearlever pin can slide in it as you push down to select reverse....
  14. Hey there might be some lady owners as well😲
  15. Trouble is its never people like in the ad who feel the need to take their clothes off! Then theres the thought of seeing any nude owner making adjustments under the bonnet while at the show😱
  16. Nothing wrong and some cars have that set up but of course takes longer to fill up the filter and get oil to bearings when starting after a period laid up. Youll have to try it and see if its acceptable (rattling?) as the original is at least horizontal so keeps some oil in it...
  17. only a couple of things with the original: the availability of the filters and of course its a bit messy when changing as the can usually still has a bit of oil in it...
  18. ooh wonder if its been cross threaded or even the wrong thread? Filter pointing up really defeats the object of having the adaptor so keeping the original might have been better. I know theres a non return valve or even two on some filters but they are literally a rubber flap laying over the inlet holes so although slowing down the loss of oil from the filter cant be relied apon to stop it emptying over a few days🙁
  19. Trouble is time moves on and some of those young people think a 90s car can be a classic😲 I suppose its all relative and my grandad would have considered anything with an engine as modern! Wait till electrics start showing up at shows, then there will be some huffing n puffing.....
  20. Yes as most Vitesse cooling problems seem to occur at low speeds I dont think spots are likely to be an issue if they can be kept to each side as much as possible. Certainly if temperatures are increased while driving no fan is going to help...
  21. yes Dave the manual is your friend = 15 - 18 lb.ft
  22. Does the manual have a torque for the original type filter housing bolt as that would be a good guide?
  23. They are officially called 5 3/4"
  24. works with gearbox oil for the trunnions so I think so but will be messy and I dont know if gun seals good for it long term....
  25. Reckon accurate machining wouldnt be difficult using a section of old drive shaft with hub. Bolt the drum on reversed using the wheel studs/nuts and clamp shaft in lathe chuck then skim the minimum to achieve a good surface. It probably should be ground but it'll be an improvement even without that👍
