  1. Yes they do! I bought one before I had my carbs rebuilt. However if you follow Pete's procedure I found there to be no (or at most 1/10th of a turn) difference between both carbs. I used a vernier to measure the depth of the jet to bridge (I like to measure). It's a nice toy to have and it satisfied my curiosity but not really necessary providing you follow the rules and are careful. Iain
  2. Is the engine new, you say resto? It does take a fair amount of cranking to get the oil round especially after a layoff. I would put the plugs back in and fire up. If the green light doesn't go out after 2 or 3 seconds turn off and let us know. Iain
  3. Same here, the tyre fitter said they couldn't match the price. Iain
  4. Yes they do. You just pick the nearest fitters when ordering the tyre(s). You can also include balancing etc on the order. Iain

    Sump plug leak

The Permatex thread sealant is I believe non hardening, I suppose a bit like Wellseal, so you can disassemble. Iain

    Sump plug leak

Every home used to have a tin. You can still buy it but without all the nasty stuff that probably made it work better! Iain

    Good suggestion! Ta

    Sump plug leak

It's not the only leak the chassis will still be rusrproofed! I only found the issue as I was tidying up and cleaned the catch tray then saw a few spots on my next inspection. Iain

    Sump plug leak

The paperwork and packaging definitely said 3/8 npt. The manufacturer Gold make lots of sump plugs. I did check it was tapered but had to trust it was the right thread. As I said the one that came with the car wasn't a taper thread so rattled around and used a copper washer to seal. That weeped as well. So it's either crud in the thread or as you say they put the wrong plug in the packet. The oil has only been in for less than 500 miles but I might be able to drain it into a clean bowl. As to the plug??? Iain

    Sump plug leak

I thought Hylomar was a gasket sealant and not suitable for threads? Iain

    Sump plug leak

It is a new 'Gold' taper plug. The one that came with the car was very loose and felt like a straight thread with copper washer. I believe the thread should be tapered? Iain

    Sump plug leak

I seem to have developed a small weep from the sump plug. It's not bad just annoying. When I change the oil next can i use something like Permatex 59214 thread sealant to seal? The plug is a correct taper thread magnetic type. I'm not happy tightening any further as I don't want to crack the boss to oil pan welding. Iain
  13. Be careful as some aftermarket pencils have a lip on the plastic body to stop it passing straight through the boss so you can't remove without taking the boss off. My boss is non standard to fit my again non standard wood rim steering wheel and I have to take the wheel assy off to take the pencil out. Iain
  14. All I'll say is 150 (mm with rounding) sounds bigger than 6 inches....🤭
  15. In the Vitesse I can do blacklines I'm not sure about blackcircles. I've never tried and not really sure I want to! Iain
  16. Ah but is it really 50.8 x 101.6😂 Non ferrous extrusions changed over to mainly metric and sheet metal is almost entirely metric. The imperial system is plain 'orrible and should be consigned to history. Iain
  17. US vs UK gallons one of the few occasions where the UK is bigger! Then there's centimetres a useless unit only used buy people who can't measure. In engineering it's millimeters and metres, centimetres don't exist. Iain
  18. Well done Sherlock! Iain
  19. Tried to find invoice but wife must have 'filed' it. It may be blackcircles. Iain
  20. Steel rims of that era don't normally require tubes. I've fitted Falken tyres ordered via Blacklines website. You pick the tyre and fitter then they supply the tyres to the fitter. Very slick, easy and I found good price. Iain
  21. Just shows how we differ in symptoms. My only relief prior to operation was to lay on my back which caused great hilarity at work! Sitting down was a pain in the a**e. An MRI scan identified the problem. When he told be I could see the glee in the surgeons eyes........ Iain
  22. Take a look at the Mckenzie exercises. I've had sciatica and a lower vertibrae scrap n clean up operation. Every day, providing I remember, I do the back arch then forward bend exercise. The ones that have helped when I get a flare up are laying down and shifting your hip to one side or standing up with you elbow at shoulder height resting on a wall then push your hip in with your other hand. Both have worked for me but don't do the 'tea pot' exercise in public as you might get some odd looks! The book was recommended to me by the Sports injury clinic at Crystal Palace. No I'm not an athlete! Best of luck sciatica is awful and the pain seemingly never ending, I know! Apparently the worst thing you can do is sit down. Iain
  23. Before you take the cap off the carbs remove the piston damper and stick your finger in the carb and lift the piston. Then let it drop. It should drop with a nice metallic clonk. If it doesn't the jet needs centralising. Also if you take the cap off as Johny suggests to check the diaphragms when you reinstall ALWAYS do the above procedure to make sure the needle is centered. If its not you can get hunting or uneven tick over..... I know! Sometimes when retightening the four cap screws a small nudge on the cap is all it takes to get a nice clonk! The clearance between the jet and needle is very small so it's easy for the needle not to sit down correctly which can hold the piston up and let air in at a lower velocity hence less fuel. Iain
  24. I had a cuddle with an armco fortunately only scoured along the side of the car but the guy who I shared the car with (in the pic) decided the underside needed some sun so, I don't know how as I wasn't there, flipped it over onto it's roof. He was an animal of a driver who used to race minis. Hope the repairs go well. Iain
  25. It worked! I did have some photos of me having a 'moment' as Castle Combe. The craziest circuit in the Jaguar was Lydon which was a bit tight for a bunch of big saloons. The car decided to go ploughing there and was a dnf! Let me know when you are at Brands. Iain
