  1. A good idea I didn't do that. Something to put on the list!
  2. Yes the smelly stuff.....πŸ‘ƒ
  3. Yes I bought two Wanner guns off Ebay, one for grease one for oil. I did exactly that forced the oil in until it came out of all the joints. Be brutal! It hasn't removed the grease but as a quick n dirty fix it is much better and give you an idea of the possible cause of the heavy steering. Iain
  4. I think mine is a Silverline but they are all pretty much the same just look out for the best price. Iain
  5. Knowing no better when I first bought my Vitesse I greased the trunnions and the steering was heavy. I subsequently oiled them (but not disassembled) until oil dripped out and it was like having power steering! The difference was huge not only at low speed but in the feel at mid/high speed. Or it could be the rack.......! Try the easy fix oiling first. Iain
  6. I'm not sure I'll be able to get the star washers off now! I did put patches of thin rubber to stop any potential rattles between the Triumph and Overdrive badges. The Triumph badge being recessed at the back doesn't really lend itself to double sided tape. I suppose it could just stick around the periphery contact area. Perhaps the letters are better suited but there aren't any on a Mk2 Vitesse. Had it's first outing in the new rear end livery. Some of the mystic lost as its no longer that car in Lotus colours but a Triumph!
  7. YES! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  8. It worked! So my solution is to first push a solid rubber grommet (the type with no hole in the centre) into the two holes in the aluminium trim panel. I then pushed the badge stakes through the grommets. It already felt solid. I then used a larger washer and the 2.5mm push on star washers and it is really solid. Thanks PeteH for the suggestion and everyone else for your help. All finished bar the elusive vitesse badge on the cowl and I think looking much better. With the bits I'm selling and sold the conversion wouldn't have cost much at all. Now what else can I play with..... Iain
  9. Try baking soda solution first? Never tried it but Google has...... At least it's not as harsh.
  10. Most parts are just sand castings so have a rough surface and never made to look decorative. For castings you would really have to remove the part and use a linishing and polishing mop to give a polished surface. However for me that would look odd. I use Autosol to polish aluminium/stainless steel/chrome trim parts. Iain
  11. I think my pin was tapered as it only went in fully from one end. It's one of those jobs that you need three hands...... Iain
  12. You could keep a lot in Oxford bag trouser turn ups!
  13. I think you are right and I urge those who are not current members and are valued contributors to the forum to please pause any action you may make. The forum is for a lot of us a great way to share our personal thoughts, problems, happiness not related to anything Triumph or cars. To that end it serves an important service. Yes it can at times be frustrating as many of us have, how can I put it, fairly fixed views but on balance it helps many of us. I understand those overseas won't use all the members services and think Adrian's idea of a small forum charge for full access could be of merit to all. I also agree with Pete's post about making club meets open to view. Every non member is a potential member! I do think there should be a members only area but perhaps we haven't got the boundary line quite right yet plus some of us may have started topics in the wrong place? Iain
  14. Fixing the boot lamp cowl I dropped a nyloc nut (a set came with the gasket) which bounced off something in the boot as I heard the dreaded ting noise then saw it disappear in the floor well under the fuel tank. I couldn't see or feel it. Time to buy a flexible magnetic grab! Iain
  15. How many times did you drop a screw......? They drop, tinkle tinkle into oblivion!
  16. Very commendable attitude. I think until we learn what is open to guests and only available to members some very well intentioned 'posts' will be lost. The art must be in starting the topic in the correct area? So non members are able to view the members area but not post? Surely the members area should not be viewable by non members? Iain
  17. Exactly! The push on star washers should arrive tomorrow and it will make it very difficult to remove🀞. This the type of dished washer. I'll post a photo when it's installed.
  18. The push on buttons are a waste of time. No way they will retain the Triumph/overdrive badges. I'm thinking a star washer would be better? Iain
  19. Wasn't it egg in the radiator?
  20. Methinks he jests! Colin where are you?
  21. I also read Colin's pasta fix for his fuel tank. What day is it.......yes it's April 1st! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  22. Will do, I bought the cowl from him. Iain
  23. I don't think I'm up for that, I'm leaving it St Tropez style....naked! Unless anyone has a bumper set they would like to sell?? Iain
  24. I would check to make sure you have a lot of disc rotation as the throttle spindles are lifted. If left from cold even with a Huco electric pump and priming for 30 seconds it takes 2-3 good pulls to start. Choke nearly full out and once started back in to around 1/3rd out. I have to leave the choke out for some time if stationary or the engine stalls. Iain
