  1. Pete, very useful I always research before buying or ask the Forum! The PO of my car mixed AF's and completely gummed up the rad and had to be replaced at their cost. All cean now and I want it to stay that way! Iain
  2. Thanks Nigel, I'm going to fill with plain water to get rid of the last of the unknown red AF (must remember to open heater valve) and order some 4life. Iain
  3. I have a modified WP for my Vitesse mk2 arriving soon, EP sent it on Thursday. To obtain more clearance from the rad to easily fit a 12" electric fan and still be able to change fan belts they used a modified pulley from a Perkins diesel! They had to bore and ream it to fit on the existing impeller shaft. He said he has reduced the length from the housing flange to the nose to 63/64mm. This should be fine but due to Easter UPS have yet to deliver. I've also made 2 pairs of brackets to mount the fan, I'll take some pics and post. In short +1 for EP! Send your old one to them and get it refurbed with their bearings etc. Iain

    Spark plugs

I think you fit all the multi tip plugs as is. I certainly am not going to fiddle with my W78's, the tips of the electrodes are curved! Iain
  5. Nigel, did you have any issues when you changed to 4life? Iain
  6. I've read 4life will find any weak points in your system but then is that a bad thing? I've also read it's not recommended for classic engines but their website says the opposite. A bit like the last year we need to sift out the bs and get down to facts. 4life looks fine to me and maintenance free (I wouldn't go down the Evans route). IAT AF is also fine but is required to be changed every 2 years. I like those two words maintenance free! Iain
  7. I've been bored for pretty much the last year, can you tell us why you are changing back to standard AF? I ask because I've just drained my system to fit a new water pump. Iain

    Spark plugs

When I changed from BP6ES to Bosch W78's there was a noticeable improvement . Going up my (well it's not mine but in the complex where I live) multi-storey car park at low revs it was always a bit jerky but with the W78's it's nice and smooth. Iain

    Spark plugs

Greensparkplug sell both W78 and WR78.

    Spark plugs

+1 for W78 plugs, I bought mine from Greensparkplug. They have a larger gap so make sure your coil is up to it.
  11. I set my Lucas dizzy with Pertronix at 10 degrees, seems fine. I thought it a good compromise between the 13 or 7 degree options for various octane ratings. Iain
  12. Dave, I think fitting carb heat shields is a good starting point. How do your plugs look? Iain
  13. Nick, before I do anything else I'll wait to see if EP can do their magic. He was very hopeful. There seems to be a lot more room in a GT6. Don't know if it's the Bastuck rad but I've pushed that forward so the brackets abutt the valance. I have tried angling the rad but it's still too tight for the bigger fan. He received the pump last Thursday so I'll chase him up Monday. Iain
  14. I tried the 12" Spal positioned at the bottom left and it hits the crank bolt. I do have the correct Mk2 thin crank boss, the one with a recess for the crank. I also pushed the engine back as far as I could. I could machine a couple of mill off the front face and the bolt head but it would still be too close given the engine does move slightly. I spoke to EP and he said he's 90% sure he can use a Herald(?) pulley which is shorter and will hopefully give me enough clearance to fit the fan at the top left of the rad.
  15. I put a Sierra roller bearing in the flywheel as I have a T9 gearbox conversion. Works fine. Iain
  16. OK, I had to get my spigot bush out the old fashioned way with a dollop of grease and a bar the diameter as the spigot then gave it a thump with a hammer. It certainly didn't want to come out!
  17. Paul, where did you get the bush from? Can you accurately measure the bush o/d and the crank i/d? Iain PS, the gurus on the forum will tell you if there are different size bushes but I think they are all the same on 6 pots.
  18. I have the fan with the flat on the fan rim horizontal under the rad top and as far left as it can go ie it's at the top left as I look at the rad from the engine. It's only taped on as a trial and I'm making some brackets to fit on the threaded stud on the side of the rad and underneath the mounting bracket. Made some cardboard tryouts and looks ok. I have the 4 Spall mounting brackets with arms that I will use to fix to the new rad brackets. 🤞
  19. It clears the crank bolt etc I only have a problem with the water pump. I assume the one I have is the standard pump, I have no idea if they vary in length. Bit of a thread drift here, when EP get back to me I'll post on Cooling. Iain
  20. That's the one I'm putting in now, I've also taken the crank fan off. I and an experienced mechanic have both tried to fit it but it hits the pump when positioned to miss the crank pulley. Perhaps my engine is 10 or 20mm forward than yours although there isn't that much movement in the engine mounts or the Bastock uprated rad sits further back. Whatever the reason it ain't not goin' in wivout pump or fan casing mods. Iain
  21. I also have a degree calibrated gauge and sitting in a motorway queue I get all twitchy when it gets up to 100C and don't know when it's going to stop! Plus to alleviate my paranoia I have the heater and fan on so I'm also toasty and mildly moist myself🥵. The new Spal is a 12" but won't fit easily without the pump mod. I'm not saying I couldn't get it to fit if I cut some of the fan casing away but if EP can do their magic and refurb the pump it's the best solution. If only I could fit aircon! Iain
  22. Gets too toasty for me at summer when in the inevitable traffic jam. I hate watching water temp gauges! The smaller Spal fan nearly worked but not powerful enough. This 1 inch bigger more powerful fan has 1.5 times the suck but without the pump mod I just can't fit it without cutting a lot of the fan casing away. Iain
  23. Thanks Pete and Andy, I fitted the Pertronix Ignitor 2 and Flamethrower coil which made a big improvement at tickover and general pickup. As I would like to keep the Jaeger tacho if I want to do anything further I'll just get the Lucas dizzy refurbed. I've sent my water pump to EP Services as it had a slight dribble and he said he could reduce the length of the body by 20mm to give me enough radiator clearance to fit an uprated larger Spal electric fan. That and making some brackets to mount the fan is (at the moment) the sum of my twiddlin but not the end of the list! Iain
