  1. It was -35C near my friends in Minnesota, they sent a holiday photo.....
  2. I'm reading these posts and if you are of a certain mindset it reads like a thread from one of Doug's infamous 'other' sites😂 Perhaps I'm punch drunk 'cos I've just booked my jab for this Wednesday...... Yay! Iain PS, I used some vacuum hose from Halfords. Fits and works fine.
  3. Sunny days were always dangerous in my school, by the end of summer we all had burn holes in our trousers and pock marks on our skin from 'friends' creaping up with a magnifying glass. Happy days!
  4. Inside mine, to me, at cruising speed is just a loud deep drone. It's better at high revs but then I'm normally concentrating on other things!
  5. Good that you've found the culprits! Can't you, carefully, take out the followers by just taking the rocker assembly off and leaving the head on? Iain
  6. You've got me thinking now, do I go single sports tail pipe or put a silencer in the centre and retain the twin pipes? If only we could all meet up and have a chat and pint! At Easter perhaps? 🤞 Iain
  7. Nigel You've convinced me a centre cylindrical silencer is the way I'm going. The straight centre pipe is pretty close to the prop, what silencer did you use? Iain PS I just reread it's the mk2 GT6, I'll have to measure up and see what fits on a mk2 vitesse.
  8. A two box system should be quieter. My phoenix 6-3-1 with wheelbarrow tails is a bit to noisy for me, but I like the look! I might try and fit a centre box as I know a man who makes bespoke exhaust systems. Iain
  9. My fuel gauge reads over full when I fully fill the tank and at around 1/4 on the gauge the engines running on fumes. I fitted a new tank sender, could the arm be bent? Iain
  10. Is the noise the same if you depress the clutch? Iain
  11. Thanks Clive, I like the idea of the uniform clamping force. Iain
  12. Going back to exhaust clamps, can you get enough force on the Mikalors vs U bolt clamps? I only ask as I have the s/steel exhaust system. Iain
  13. I know some EU companies have set up distribution centres in the UK to overcome tarrifs and any returned goods. The same argument applies to UK companies, financial services being one sector although their agreement is yet to be sorted. Early days and Covid hasn't helped. Iain
  14. As everyone here I do hope this is a blip and can be sorted out as it is in everyone's interests both EU and UK. So if at the moment there are import taxes on goods not wholly made in the UK (I know this country of origin percentage is reducing) from the UK to EU does the same apply if I bought parts from say Bastuck Germany and the part originates from say China? Surely the agreement works both ways? Iain
  15. When you took the rocker cover off did you see any marks on the inside where something hitting? That's an easy find! However judging by your last video and your comment I would look for something tapping the exhaust or the exhaust hitting. Iain
  16. I had my head modified and skimmed and fitted new rocker gear and pedestal shims. When I started the engine it was like a machine gun. I took the cover off and noticed one rocker was hitting. Like you I fitted a new gasket which gave me just enough clearance. When the weather is a bit better I'll check the rocker arm angles to see if the shim is too thick. Iain
  17. Try investigating with the rocker cover off It sounds like top end to me.
  18. M Make sure you get a pass from the local constabulary, I hear they are using 'stingers' now. The world's gone bonkers! Iain
  19. Aidan, I really do suggest measuring or getting the machine shop to measure and review everything as you may be wasting energy. I know it's all good fun and valuable lessons but it doesn't really get you further along. Iain
  20. Bosch WR78 are good, bought mine from Greenspark Plug. Iain
  21. Don't go there.......
  22. It really does reinforce what I said re good quality instruments and having them calibrated. Your reading variations do show the crank needs a regrind but as Pete says you can't trust the actual value. When you are making decisions on close tolerance parts you must have the correct equipment. As Roger said buying good quality equipment is better than new cheap rubbish but then it MUST be calibrated. Most very good sets come with calibrated bars but to be sure on second hand equipment you should these bars (or rings for bore gauges) checked by a good machine shop. Iain
  23. Pete, you beat me to it. I was on my daily trot around the island, I like this weather around freezing but no wind. Pity the sun's not out or it would be perfick! Aidan, as with most instruments there is a technique it taking measurements. If there is a small knob on the micrometer that clicks when you tighten on whatever you are measuring use it as this maintains an even pressure on the jaws. If you tighten too much you can get a wrong reading. If not do not over tighten just 'kiss' the part with very little torque. Iain
  24. Aidan, If you want to do more home investigation measure your crankshaft mains and BE diameters. The issue of whether you change any shells may be answered! Take a couple of readings top/bottom and side to side. At least you will know what size shells you need. Iain
