  1. Boiling tap water would not do much for dissolved minerals, except concentrate them. Boiling long enough will concentrate them to the point that some will some out of solution and form scale. But the water left behind will still have a high mineral content. Ed
  2. On the stripped front sump fastening holes--if that bridge piece were aluminum, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. It is in fact a zinc alloy, much softer than most aluminum. The fastener holes at the rear are in the aluminum rear seal housing, and have much less tendency to strip than those at the front. And, yes, the stripped holes can be repaired.   4. I considered Evans for my TR6 and discovered all of the pros and cons above, but I was still on the fence. The decider for me was the cost, and it wasn't that I couldnt afford it. Evans appears to be just straight glycols, and there is no earthly reason that it should cost what it does. I didn't go with Evans because I would have felt ripped off.
  5. For thes CLD products, 100% coverage of panels isn't necessary. Most of the vibration damping benefit is gotten by applying to the center area of larger, flatter panels. Ed
  6. Most of these adhesive damping mats are examples of CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) products. They work by increasing the mass of a panel, and dissipating vibration energy as heat. The gooey material is usually either butyl rubber or a bituminous material. The latter is cheaper, but has sort of an asphaltic odor. CLD products vary in thickness, where thicker products are generally more effective. Also more expensive. Ed
  7. I had the same issue-- the drain was blocked. Though the blockage was pretty hard, I did manage to chip it all out. I believe it is left over casting sand from the foundry. Part of the casting core. A fairly common occurrence, apparently. Ed
