  1. The TFL website at the following URL details the exemptions and vehicles registered as "Historic" are exempt insofar as you qualify for a 100% discount: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions#:~:text=All vehicles that have a,vans or street food vans).
  2. And gold plated given the cost of a ticket to get into Twickers these days.
  3. Thanks Pete, that tells me an awful lot more that the Haynes manual. I have decided that I might as well do both sides with new cylinders, pistons and seals. Also included will be the dust covers. I shall follow Pete's advice about the spring clips too. Thanks everyone for your advice.
  4. The fitting kit is the spring clips and the like. It is listed on Paddock's site. My six is an early Mk3 KE3529-O so everyone stocks the cylinders. I'm taking in the Stoneleigh show in a couple of weeks time so may just have a look at what might be available there and if nothing, order them afterwards. There's no rush as the weather isn't exactly conducive to doing such a job out on the drive. I don't have a garage as such but do have a car port. Meanwhile I can use the Sixfire!
  5. A quick scan shows that Rimmer, Canley and Paddock all have seal kits. New cylinders are not overly expensive so I think I will change the pair of wheel cylinders. Are new fitting kits recommended or will the old suffice? Would this be "spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar"?
  6. The nearside rear brake cylinder on the early Mk3 GT6 has blown and leaked Dot5 inside the drum. Given that it is probably 52 years old, should I replace it or repair it? Should I do the pair at the same time? I'm not even sure if replacement seals are available these days. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
  7. I knocked up a paper with the significant torques on and keep it in the box. Wheel nuts, cylinder head bolts, that sort of thing.
  8. ALDI had very good torque wrenches on sale in their special buys for £19.99 but have knocked them down to £15.99. Be aware that though they are very well made and come with calibration certificates, they are metric only so you would need to do your conversions. I have one from one of their previous sales and it is a superb tool.
  9. Very nice looking six. It's been years since I went to Halfpenny Green as I used to live in the area until I joined the RAF in 1978 and ended up in Wiltshire.
  10. The answer to the original question is in my experience a definite yes. Pete's comments about the position of the cam lever sound right too as this is an effect I sometimes get with the GT6 but not every time. The cam position would explain this.
  11. I inherited a small thin file from my father who always referred to it as his "Magneto file". I have only ever used it for flattening off point tips.
  12. I use the OKE stuff too. Buy it from an Ebay seller and it is absolutely fine in both cars clutch and brake.
  13. Went out and about this morning in the GT6 but needed fuel. Sainsbury's had no super and only had ordinary unleaded on half of the pumps. The Esso station along the road at Gablecross had no super and only had ordinary on half of its pumps. Went to the expensive filling station in Covingham and they had everything available with no pumps out of action. Is this a case of people filling up in advance of Xmas as stations will be shut for a day or is it symptomatic of the train driver's strikes? (BTW the fuel was £1.679 per litre.)
  14. Well done Cliff. I doubted you would be able to do it but you proved me wrong. Do let us know how the buttons wear as I need to change some on the GT6 this coming spring.
  15. That's a really long restoration Jase! Just joking - what's the car like?
  16. Pete's advice about having the bleed jar higher than the slave cylinder is golden. Since using his technique I have had no problems whatsoever with brake bleeding. The order I have used is OSR, NSR, OSF, NSF.
  17. Next years event is in the calendar and takes place on 12th and 13th August 2023. I will post the details for entry when the Events Coordinator (Emma) makes them available. This year we had 2 x Heralds, 1 x GT6, 1 x Sixfire, 1 x Spitfire Mk3 and 1 x TR8 present over the two days. Entry was free for car and two people which covered the whole event. Train rides, steam traction engines, beer tent, lots of different live music, etc etc. Camping may be available - it was this year. Additional people with exhibitors were only £5. Note that it does take place on a field - no hard standings!
  18. I had no spares so went to my local security specialists who cut me sets for both my Mk3 GT6 and my Sixfire 1500. They are very competent: https://www.ess-swindon.co.uk/
  19. I too have a 1960's Gedore socket set. It has only let me down once when I used the 1/2" AF as a drift after which it wouldn't fit 1/2" AF nuts. The metal case it came with corroded away many years ago but everything else still works as good as new. Halfords professional range are what I use for the motorbikes and any other metric oddities I come across. Excellent tools!
  20. Handy place to keep an emergency four pack!😁🍺
  21. I have never replaced a full set, only the odd one here and there. I have always done them dry though but have ensured that the plug hole is nice and clean with a light rub with fine emery paper.
