  4. Back in 1977 my GT6 Mk1 (RPK67F) had a crack develop on the exhaust manifold. My dad who was a coded welder and qualified to weld cast iron using Eutectic's patented methods welded it up for me and it was as good, if not better than new.

  7. I found one of these on the GT6 which had been fitted by a PO. It does effectively seal the union so I renewed it when I reassembled the pipe / pump joint.

  9. Out in the rain this morning in the Sixfire (Maybe that should be a Spitesse?). This was a whim as I hadn't had an opportunity to get out at all in the last week. I took the GT6 down to Hungerford last Saturday which was nice. There was a Mercedes estate ahead of me on the return from there to Swindon and he wasn't hanging around. I was easily able to keep up with him though and clearly had an advantage through the curves near Whittonditch. The Spit ran really well too today. It has running lights in the grill but despite these, lorry drivers seem to have difficulty in spotting the car. Anyway, the sun is out here now and she's drying off and cooling down before I cover her up again. Loved every minute of these drives!

  11. I'm with Uncle Pete on this one. My GT6 has HS4 and since I balanced and set the mix with a colourtune they have needed no adjustments at all in several thousand miles. Meanwhile, my Sixfire had HS6 and ran a lot better after I changed them for a pair of Strombergs. Since then, I have had several issues with the dreaded rubber slivers blocking the float needles. Ultimately, I replaced all of the rubber pipe with Gates Barricade, drained the tank (filtered the fuel and used it in the wife's Jazz) and stripped the carbs again. Rubber slivers everywhere! New fuel filters added, one before and one after the fuel pump. I'm hoping this will have resolved the issue. I can't remember which needles are fitted in the HS4s but could take a look and let you know if you think it would help. Let me know... Incidentally, I have cheap (Ebay) pancake air filters on the GT6. They seem to do the job very well.
  12. My 1977 has a vent pipe going towards the off side and then down to a grommet in the floor. Will get a photo if you want, let me know.
  13. I had a very slow speed off a few years ago on diesel which was most likely spilled from our local bus where it turned left at traffic lights but I would turn right. A broken brake lever and a bruised ego were the results. Fortunately the lights were against me else I would have been doing about 20mph rather than the less than 2mph I was doing. I protested to the bus company who then said that they would ensure that their fuel tanks were not overfilled. The sods wouldn't buy me a new brake lever though!
  14. The North Wiltshire branch had one donated to us which is in my possession but available to anyone. Anyone near Swindon is welcome to collect and borrow it.
  15. I looked long and hard at the regulator components and the bit doesn't match any of them.
  16. My Workshop Manual on 5.205 doesn't show anything like that as being a door component so sorry, no ideas here. (Albeit that my manual is for a GT6 rather than a Spit).
  17. Nowadays this compound is referred to as "tetrachloromethane". As you say, it is banned from use in these enlightened days of ozone layer depletion.
  18. If you mean a coil spring compressor, I have one here in Swindon which effectively belongs to the North Wilts branch of TSSC. It was donated and I am its current custodian.

  20. All done now. The pipe from Canley arrived quite quickly. I then discovered that my smallest bender was for 1/4 inch pipe. AB tools got a 3/16 die to me in a day and a half. Pipe duly bent, fitted and system bled. I used the cling film method and only needed to bleed the offside front. I did check the other three but all were clear. The old pipe had two unnecessary bends in it. Thanks for the advice chaps.
  21. A few of us from the North Wiltshire group will be exhibiting our cars over this weekend at the Railway's "Families Weekend". The event takes place at Blunsdon station and details can be found by googling the railway. I should have both the Sixfire and the GT6 there.
  22. Welcome to this place Dom. I have a mk3 GT6 and a Sixfire - Spit 1500 with a GT6 engine. Hybrids like this offer a whole new range of problems for their owners particularly when the conversion was done by a PO. Best of luck with your restoration.
