Out of interest "what does valve bounce sound / feel like"?. Yes I know, I should drive car harder, then maybe obvious. I just can't!.

🙂Thought that was a joke at first as in "how many grooves in a record"

That sloping forward section does seem a common rot area (if water entering via lamp assembly, as I think it does on mine).
Maybe leave unplugged?.

Yes, thanks so much Kevin, much obliged.

Had a look and and mine have holes, have grommets blanking them off.

I have a few I have come across, if it's of interest?
I guess not then?, thought this might be relevant?, I'm genuinely interested, if it's not relevant, then I would like to know, so I don't waste my ltd time on car.
Thanks, Dave

they do wear into the inside of the follower and should be used as matched pairs
I thought the followers also wear to the cam lobes?. If so, then if replacing followers, then cam shaft needs replacing as well?

There was an article in Courier a while back in the Bond section, where the member cut a long, thin wedge shape into the bottom of the B post, then welded up after pulling in. Apparently, very little stress on wings to pull in , little creaking, paint cracking etc. Have mentioned this technique before, though no response. Is it a bad idea?

Have a good Xmas everyone and thanks for all your input, very interesting and useful
Doug, are those Lions 063 suitable for 6 cylinder please?. Also, I assume, they are maintenance free (I guess they all are now?), if so, are they the ones that you can take the top covers off to top up if necessary? (I have been told they do exist?), as apparently useful, if running dynamo, as battery can get warm by overcharging, as not as accurate a Alternator setup?
Cheers, Dave

Hi. I noticed my cranking was slower than usual on two occasions, from cold, though battery had been charged and reading about 12.75 V.
Car is running a dynamo. I did about a 40 min drive in slow city traffic, plus traffic lights. This was with headlights on.
After stopping, no juice to restart. Battery V was 12.5, which I thought should be enough to start a hot engine (Car a very good starter).
Battery is about seven years old.
Time to get battery tested maybe?.
Charging system was faulty, though now appears a lot Better, after replacing Control Box, so thinking battery not good, even though still holds voltage.
Cheers, Dave

That drain hole I never knew about, mine fill a bit in heavy rain (leaks somewhere in the lamp fitting I assume?). I sponge the water after heavy rain). Will have a look and clear, or re drill holes if non there. Thanks for info folks.

Hi Chris. I'm thinking of moving to Scotland or maybe Wales, aside from a lower population, will I be struggling to find someone with the skills?. I thought, maybe any good body shop would be able to, "polish a turd", if you know what I mean.
Thanks, Dave

Great job Josef. Thanks a lot for all the photos and info.

Tesco are cheaper on Redex
The link for me went to the wine section, for a second I thought you were joking that Aldi wine tastes like Redex

On surface chassis rust, I have sprayed diesel, then Waxoyl (mixed with some engine oil, which does seem to stop it drying out). I think there are better products, than modern Waxoyl now.
In the none exposed to spray areas, it has stayed oily/greasy for 8 years (though I redo the exposed areas every 2/3 years), and clean mud/debris, from the places that trap it it, every year, and when I'm under car. Underneath appears to have not noticeably deteriated in that time, It's used in all weather, all year around, though try to avoid salt, and not a daily driver as such

Do the bores of the U.J fit the spindles and also the 8mm rods, without any machining/fettling/. Looks a great alternative.

Now an easy question, hopefully?. It appears the Control Box black earth wire, is part of the loom that comes into the C.B.
Where is that wire eventually earthed (as wiring diagrams, don't appear to show this, as such).
Any help with with this please

Intresting, thanks. As I thought, electrics aren't necessarily simple!.
So, could it be that lower than around 13.5 volts, across the battery at idle is not necessarily a charging issue?.
-
Hi. Something I've never understood, so would appreciate any advice.
From what I understand, running an engine with a dynamo at idle (in my case about 800rpm), with a charged battery (say 12.6v etc) and no load, eg lights, should give a volts reading across the battery of about 13.5v.
I don't understand this as a apparently a dynamo wouldn't be charging at these rpm and the ignition would be using some current anyway.
Cheers, Dave

Were those "swept backs", an accessory, as such, or factory fitted to certain makes of car?

No, it's not. The people who hate that one person are responsible for a lot of very unpleasant opinion spouting and should ban themselves first.
I totally agree with this sentiment.
Why does No. 4 oil up first?

just an idea?, the unburnt fuel then washes the oil off and it then sparks and fires up?
